Pan India superstar Dulquer Salmaan celebrated his birthday with a spine-tingling surprise for fans — courtesy of his childhood friend and actor-producer Rana Daggubati. Taking to Instagram, Rana unveiled the much-awaited teaser of Kaantha, a period horror film that promises to take viewers back to the earliest era of Indian horror cinema.

The teaser — now streaming in Tamil and Telugu on YouTube — offers a chilling introduction to a story set in the 1950s, when Indian cinema was still experimenting with genres and storytelling techniques. Touted as a tribute to the golden age of filmmaking, Kaantha seems to blur the line between reel and real, with disturbing themes of ego, legacy, and family loyalty woven into its narrative.

 

Rana Daggubati, who plays a pivotal supporting role in the film, shared a set of new posters to mark the teaser release and penned a nostalgic note: “Celebrate the golden age of silver screens with us. Directed and written by Selvamani Selvaraj, Kaantha stars Dulquer Salmaan in a never-seen-before avatar, caught in an emotionally fraught relationship with his on-screen father, played by acclaimed actor Samuthirakani. The teaser hints at a gripping storyline centred around artistic ambition, psychological breakdowns — all set amidst the dramatic atmosphere of a supernatural film in the making and vintage studios.

 

Adding another layer of intrigue is newcomer Bhagyashree Borse, who appears in the teaser as part of the complex father-son equation. Her presence raises questions about power, rivalry, and forbidden alliances — making the already suspense-filled trailer even more tantalizing.
