Fans of South Indian cinema icons Rajinikanth and Vijay can finally put to rest the whispers of a brewing rivalry between the two superstars. In a recent event, Rajinikanth addressed the controversy head-on, expressing his disappointment at the misinterpretations and reaffirming his deep respect for Vijay.

For the unversed, the rumours stemmed from a speech Rajinikanth gave at the audio launch of his film Jailer last year. He shared an allegorical story about crows and eagles, which some interpreted as a veiled reference to Vijay.

 

At the audio launch of his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth's movie Lal Salaam, Rajinikanth set the record straight. He clarified that the story was meant to be general and was misconstrued on social media. He expressed his disappointment at the misunderstanding and emphasized the close bond he shares with Vijay.

 

He said, “The story of a crow and eagle was interpreted differently. On social media, many spread rumours saying it was against Vijay. It’s so disappointing. Vijay grew up in front of my eyes.”

 

Rajinikanth further added, “During the shooting of Dharmathin Thalaivan, he was just 13 years old, and looked at me from upstairs. After the shooting, SA Chandrasekar introduced Vijay to me and said that he was interested in acting. He asked me to tell Vijay to concentrate on his studies first. I advised him to complete his schooling.”

 

Rajinikanth went on to highlight Vijay's talent, discipline, and hard work, attributing his success to these qualities. He also acknowledged Vijay's foray into politics, emphasizing that their paths are distinct and there's no competition between them.

 

"Vijay had said that he is his competition and I have also stated the same. It's disrespectful to say that we are each other's competition," declared Rajinikanth. He urged fans to refrain from comparing them and to instead celebrate their individual achievements.

 

Speaking of the professional front, as mentioned above, he will be next seen in Lal Salaam. The film is slated to release on February 9.
