Showing physical affection is also a part of dating someone, but what if that is what causes a hindrance in your relationship? Well, it certainly has affected Park Hae Na all her life. So much so that she has to face criticism from her friends and colleagues for never having kissed her boyfriends. But the problem is, she cannot tell anyone why. What will she even say? “Oh, I turn into a dog when I kiss because of an ancestral curse.” People will think she is delusional.

Poor Hae Na. Now, she is a homeroom teacher at a high school with a reputation of the BUKC aka Breaking Up Kissing Couples. She harbours a crush on fellow history teacher Mr Lee Bo Gyeon and on one fateful night, she kisses him. Except, it isn’t Mr Lee but Mr Jin Seon Woo, another teacher at the school who is rather cold and distant to Hae Na.

Hae Na’s curse can only be broken if she kisses the same person again but in her dog form. She tries to get Mr Jin to kiss her in her dog form, but as fate would have it, Mr Jin is absolutely scared of dogs. His fear stems from a bullying incident in his younger days.

We come to know all this in the two episodes that have aired so far. We also see where Hae Na’s family’s curse first started. There were flashbacks to the past, specifically the year 1592 when the whole ordeal happened. In one of his classes, Mr Lee also says that he would like to go back to that year and change history.

Staying true to its light-hearted comic nature, we see Hae Na finding herself in awkward situations which are bound to elicit a giggle or two. Par Gyu Young’s character Park Hae Na is like any other 20-something woman who is trying to have a life of her own by dating and meeting new people. But that damned curse! She is bubbly, cheerful but she is also headstrong. Like any female lead in a romcom, we see Hae Na landing herself in hilariously awkward situations all the time.

Lee Hyun Woo’s character Lee Bo Gyeom is the type which you will like from the first instant. Like the students in the drama sporting a likeness for him, the audience is too bound to have one soon (if they haven’t already!) Cha Eun Woo’s Jin Seo Woo is the typical tsundere character. Why? Let’s see - 1. He is distant. 2. He barely shows emotions. 3. He is only close to Bo Gyeom among all other colleagues. 4. He rarely smiles. Hae Na even exclaimed that the slight upturn of his lips was the only time she saw Seo Woo smile.

Such fantasy dramas which involve a curse, and a connection of the leads since their past generations, are quite interesting to watch. It gives you enough to think over, theorise and fawn over all the same time! In the first two episodes, we are introduced to the main characters, the supporting characters and also the main plot of the story. The fresh sounding soundtrack and the sound affects peppered throughout the drama add to the vibrancy of each scene. The one-hour long run time for each episode captures the storyline beautifully. A Good Day to be a Dog is a good indulgence to drive away the mid-week blues.
