In less than 24 hours, Pushpa 2 – The Rule will finally be available across the world. The excitement is historic and we spoke to trade experts to find out about their expectations, opening day prediction etc. Many are hopeful that the Hindi version will cross the numbers of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan on the first day and thus emerge as the highest opener ever. Jawanhad an opening of Rs. 65.50 crores.

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “The way it’s going, the first day collections should be in the range of Rs. 65-70 crores. It may even touch Rs. 70 crores. Everything is very uncertain right now. The programming is still going on. There’s so much craze for the film that the exhibitors are demanding more shows. How that will be done is yet to be decided.”

 

He added, “The opening will be humongous. Earth shattering, typhoon and tsunami are mild terms! I don’t know how to describe it as an opening of this sort is very rare. Even if the shows are 70-80% sold, the spot bookings will be mind-boggling. This is not just relegated to metros; it can be seen even in the smaller towns.”

 

The exhibitors are also excited to see the response to the advance. But they feel that Jawan’s number may not be achieved because of two reasons – fewer shows due to 200 minutes of run time and insanely high rates in several cinemas.

 

A single screen told us on condition of anonymity, “The film is 3 hours 20 minutes long with no chartbuster songs. Animal was also of similar run time but at least, it had blockbuster tracks. Pathaan’s songs were super hits. Jawan and Stree 2’s songs had also picked up before release. Hence, I hope the content holds in a big way in the case of Pushpa 2 – The Rule.”

 

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, revealed, “Jawanand Pathaan had better advances in my cinema hall. Nevertheless, Pushpa 2 – The Rule is rubbing shoulders with the best of the openers. The only spoiler, from a business point of view, is its length. If its run time was the same as Pathaan, we could have managed one more show. We could only play 4 shows in a day and not 5. That would also affect its collections to some extent.”

 

He continued, “It can’t do as much as Jawan as it doesn’t have that many shows. For the Hindi version, anywhere between Rs. 50-60 crores will be a very healthy number. But if it goes above Rs. 60 crores, then it's extraordinary. But if it remains below Rs. 50 crores, it’ll be slightly disappointing.”

 

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal also said that Jawan, which had a festive release, might still retain the spot of the biggest opener. But he said, “Pushpa 2 – The Rule will have the biggest non-holiday opening of around Rs. 58-60 crores. Around 2 lakh tickets were sold as of Tuesday afternoon. Jawan had sold 5 lakh tickets before its release day. Hence, I feel Pushpa 2 can fall short of Rs. 4-5 crores.”

 

Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi predicted, “It’ll open in the range of Rs. 50-60 crores.” When asked if it could cross Jawan, he exulted, “Anything can happen. If you look at all languages, then obviously Pushpa 2 will be much bigger as the Telugu version will also go hyper-ballistic. But in Hindi, it can go anywhere. It can be 55 crores or 60 crores or even Rs. 65-66 crores.”
