Udit Narayan was recently all over the news and social media after a video of him kissing his fans went viral. The controversy has slowly died down. In an interview with us, the veteran singer spoke about the whole episode.

Now that the controversy over your kissing your fans is dying down, how do you feel about it?

 

The way the videos were being dug up from my old concerts abroad, I feel someone or some people have a lot of time in this world to try and tarnish the image of those more successful. Instead of wasting time trying to malign others, I feel people should focus on their own lives. Celebrity bashing may be fun for some. But it doesn’t get you anywhere.

 

Some of your co-singers I spoke to feel there should be more restrain in a celebrity’s conduct in public?

 

And I respect their point of view. Please let them know I’ve heard them. Each one has his or her own perception of restrain and dignity. I saw no lack of dignity in reciprocating the affection of my fans on stage. Am I so stupid as to actually do something improper on stage? I have been in the entertainment business for fifty years. I have sung for every major hero of Hindi cinema. They all love my voice. The greatest singer of India, the respected and venerated Bharat Ratna Lataji had said that she liked my voice best among all my contemporaries. Do you think I am going to get rattled by these feeble attempts to throw me on the railway track?

 

What next?

 

Yesterday it was me, today it’s somebody else. Tomorrow, koi aur hoga. When you are in the public eye you have to be prepared to face the heat.
