Srijit Mukherjee shares a video of KK performing Maachis song 'Chhod Aaye Hum' just for acclaimed lyricist Gulzar

In one of the most tragic news coming in from the music industry, popular Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, who was known as KK, passed away on May 31 after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to a private hospital in the city after his concert, where he was pronounced dead. He was 53. KK's untimely demise has sent shockwaves across the nation. He was a versatile artist who had several hits under his discography.

Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji on Tuesday shared a two-minute video of KK crooning the Maachis track 'Chodd Aaye Hum,' for acclaimed lyricist Gulzar. The song has been sung by multiple singers including KK, Suresh Wadkar, Hariharan and Vinod Sehgal back in 1996. The song marked the debut of KK as playback singer in the industry. Gulzar continued to appreciate the musician who was in the recording booth and doing his rendition of the track.

 

“In a state of total shock. Just met him last month for the first time and it seemed that we had known each other for years. The chatter wouldn’t just stop. And I was so moved to see the love he had for Gulzar saab. He said he stepped into the film world with Chhor aaye hum and sang it to him as a tribute. Farewell, my newest friend. A few weeks ago, KK had shared a lovely photo with Gulzar and wrote, "Met Gulzar Saab after so many years !! Started my film playback career with him in 1996 for Maachis. Had the good fortune to work with him yet again today. It brought back so many wonderful memories. What a man ,ever loving and gracious. Love you so much Gulzar Saab."

 


 


 

KK recorded songs in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali, among other languages. He sang several popular songs including 'Yaaron', 'Pal', 'Tu Hai Aasman Mein', 'Khuda Jaane' among others.
