REVEALED: Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 isn’t the first time Bill Gates appeared in an Ekta Kapoor production; tech titan had a “Half Girlfriend” moment too
A few days ago, netizens and TV lovers got a pleasant surprise when it came to light that Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates will make a special appearance in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’. The much-awaited show was aired yesterday, on October 23. A teaser of the conversation between Bill Gates and Tulsi (played by Smriti Irani) was uploaded to social media by the makers in the morning, and it quickly spread.
‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’ is produced by Ekta Kapoor and interestingly, this is the second time that Bill Gates has ‘appeared’ in her venture. He was earlier ‘seen’ in a crucial scene in the 2017 film Half Girlfriend, directed by Mohit Suri of Saiyaara (2025) fame. It starred Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor and was based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestselling novel of the same name.
In Half Girlfriend, there’s a memorable scene where Bill Gates is shown arriving at a school in Bihar as the chief guest, while Arjun Kapoor’s character, Madhav, delivers an emotional speech. However, unlike ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’, the tech mogul didn’t actually feature in the film. The makers had digitally superimposed his face, resulting in a tacky visual that drew widespread criticism and became the subject of online trolling.
Coming to ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’, a report in The Times of India stated, “The track will culminate in a video call between Bill Gates and Smriti Irani and will span around three episodes. The storyline focuses on creating and improving awareness about the health of pregnant women and newborns. Since the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation actively works on these causes, the collaboration came about naturally. Smriti wanted to use the show as a platform to promote health and social awareness through storytelling.”
