Hungama Play’s Damaged 2 combines crime, drama, mystery and supernatural to offer a spine-chilling experience

Hungama Play’s latest original show, Damaged 2 is the second season of its blockbuster show, Damaged. Released on Hungama Play and multiple other platforms, Damaged 2 follows a new story with a new cast – the reigning queen of television, Hina Khan along with Adhyayan Suman. The first season of the show was path-breaking in more ways than one. It featured a strong, powerful and unapologetic woman at the centre of the story, and was the first show to have a female serial killer as the main lead. Add to it, some powerful performances from its stars, Amruta Khanvilkar and Amit Sial, made the show a breakout hit when it released. Naturally, expectations are high from the second season of the show. In spite of a new setting, the show retains something extremely important from the previous season – a highly engaging narrative and unique characters that we don’t see often on television screens.

A psychological crime drama, like the first season, but with the added thrill of supernatural elements, Damaged 2 is the story of Gauri Batra (Hina Khan) and Akash Batra (Adhyayan Suman). Both run a homestay together and lead, what could seem like, an idyllic life, to many. However, when a little girl visiting the homestay goes missing, their secrets start becoming public. As the prime suspects, their lives turn upside down and we soon learn that there is something sinister about them. Gauri’s encounters with the paranormal make their lives more difficult and the story more intriguing for the viewers.

 

Stories like this need to move along at a fast pace to keep the viewers intrigued and engaged. The show has only 6 episodes keeping the storytelling crisp, making the show long enough to satisfy the viewers but short enough to keep them wanting more.

 

By getting Hina Khan and Adhyayan Suman – both, make their digital debuts – Hungama Play managed a casting coup. Hina Khan’s acting prowess needs no introduction. Viewers have been in love with her for the past 11 years. In Damaged 2, she goes beyond what we have seen her do before and gives a layered performance. She is vulnerable, calculated, vicious and desperate at different times during the show. Hina’s acting makes the viewers feel involved with her life and turmoils. Adhyayan Suman is a revelation. He brings a certain maturity to his performance and his sincerity reflects on-screen. Calm and understated when needed, and explosive when required, he traverses the scale with ease.

 

 

Other actors like Rahul Singh, Akansha Kadre, Sachin Parikh, Sapan Gulati, Amit Kumar Poddar and Anjana Nathan are cast in critical roles and instrumental in driving the story forward.

 

Director Ekant Babani weaves a complicated story that includes elements of crime, drama, thriller, supernatural and mystery. He creates a world that is captivating from the first frame itself and ensures that the show doesn’t lose steam at any point. Every thrilling moment is carefully orchestrated to leave maximum impact. Each episode ends on a high, leaving the viewers with no option but to tune in to the next one. Ekant manages to create situations that push the actors to go beyond the ordinary to deliver uninhibited, extraordinary performances.

 

Damaged 2 is the perfect addition to the Damaged franchise. The first season set a high bar in terms of storytelling and characterizations. Damaged 2 not only meets the bar, but frequently surpasses expectations as well. This one deserves the numero uno spot in your watch list!
