In a conversation with DJ AJ to decode more about his unusual idea of Digital Chants

The wedding circuit is certainly vague without DJ AJ, and why not? With his unparalleled DJing skills and unmatched energy, this young man has caused ripples in space. Not only that, but he was already making headlines for winning the Best Wedding DJ at the WeddingSutra Influencer Award 2022 for the fourth consecutive year.

 

In a conversation with DJ AJ to decode more about his unusual idea of Digital Chants

 

Having performed at big Bollywood weddings, DJ AJ has amassed a very illustrious work profile. However, the artist was not deterred from venturing into new territory and thus established Digital Chants. To know the whys and wherefores of this firm, we got in touch with DJ AJ, and below is the gist of an intriguing conversation with him.

 

What inspired you to lay the foundation of Digital Chants?

 

During the pandemic, when lockdown hit, we realised there was no work for the initial few months until they announced that wedding sprees started back but with the presence of 15-20 people. However, even this group of people needed some kind of background music. This is when the idea of Digital Chants flashed in my mind and I promptly got in touch with my partners Amrita Bhanji and Natasha Gocal. Together, we started joining the dots and this is how Digital Chants was born.

 

Can you describe to us the process of its establishment? What were the shortcomings that you had to overcome?

 

We sat in the studio and created music from scratch using a lot of live instrumentalists, musicians, sound engineers, and different vocalists. That’s how we developed tracks that were specific for every ceremony and each track has an electronic fusion that connects with every age group. Speaking of hurdles, during the pandemic, the major shortcomings that we faced were…  a lot of the time we couldn’t go to the studio and thus we weren’t getting the right audio quality. Sometimes the singer couldn’t meet us. So we lost a lot of time recording.

 

What challenges did you encounter while blending the Vedic chants with contemporary music?

 

The biggest problem was explaining the idea to our team and our clients. We couldn’t communicate with them until we made our first version. Finding the right talent was another problem. When we had the right voice, the vocalist didn't understand the space and vice versa. So it wasn’t easy at all.

 

Music has always been an important element of our weddings. Do you think Digital Chants will revamp it?

 

I feel Digital Chants are already there. To date, we have done 80-90 shows and I think it’s a great start. Digital Chants give a very modern, young feel as compared to the traditional, and that’s what today’s generation wants. So I guess the space that we are in, is the future and we are here to stay for long.

 

What else could we expect to experience from your talent in the coming future?

 

There’s a lot more in store coming up. We have a lot of clients asking for traditional elements in terms of music for these chants, and we are working on it. Hopefully, by 2023, we will have developed something that will enhance our game and introduce something unprecedented to the market.
