Om Shanti Om (2007) completed 15 years on November 9 and some very interesting and not-so-known trivia has been captured in the book 'The Making Of Om Shanti Om', written by Mushtaq Shaikh, who was also the film’s writer. Mushtaq has thrown light on how director Farah Khan went the extra mile to ensure the track set in the 70s, seems as authentic as possible. However, while doing so, it also resulted in some funny and unexpected reactions.

15 Years of Om Shanti Om: For authenticity’s sake, Farah Khan had asked for revealing clothes for background dancers but they REBELLED: “Farah was upset that she was not going to get her boobs”

Mushtaq Shaikh writes that the female background dancers, possibly in the song ‘Dhoom Taana’, were asked to wear revealing clothes, for authenticity purposes. However, they were not comfortable and hence, they objected to it.

Mushtaq says, “The biggest issue of the 70s was that if you the check the films, the heroines, the cabaret artists and the vamps showed a lot of cleavage. Farah had briefed the costume department that she needed to see boobs. But the junior artists rebelled. There was chaos and they had to cover up all the cleavages.”

In the same chapter, Mushtaq Shaikh said that costume designer Sanjeev Mulchandani had a challenge in his hand as his costume department had to design clothes for 50 to 100 people a day. Since it was practically impossible to get the exact measurements of each and every artist, they created costumes of generic size – male/female and small/medium/large. Mushtaq mentions, “They (Sanjeev’s team) crossed their fingers and prayed to God that it would work. Thankfully for them, it worked most of the time but in certain cases, it didn’t. Hence, they had a team of tailors ready on set to fix the costume.

In another chapter, Mushtaq Shaikh also mentions the date when the ‘rebel’ took place on the sets of Om Shanti Om – January 7, 2007. Here, he states, “They (the female junior artists) didn’t buy the whole 70s authenticity issue. Sanjeev Mulchandani had to work overtime to patch them up. Farah was upset that she was not going to get her boobs.”
