Kunal Kohli asks Maharashtra FDA chief Tukaram Mundhe to ‘raid’ Indian kitchens for expired food

en Bollywood News Kunal Kohli asks Maharashtra FDA chief Tukaram Mundhe to ‘raid’ Indian kitchens for expired food

Kunal Kohli urges Maharashtra FDA chief Tukaram Mundhe to check Indian homes for expired food amid ongoing food safety inspections across the state.

Filmmaker Kunal Kohli has made a rather unusual suggestion to Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe amid the department's ongoing food safety inspections across the state. The filmmaker jokingly suggested that the inspection drive should also extend to Indian households, where expired food products can often remain stored for years.

Kohli shared his comments on Instagram on Sunday, August 23, asking Mundhe to check kitchen shelves and refrigerators for products that may have long crossed their expiry dates.

Sharing his suggestion, Kohli wrote, "I request Tukaram Munde to raid kitchen shelves & refrigerators in Indian Households across the country."

The filmmaker then highlighted how households may continue to keep old food products despite never using them. He pointed out that bottles and packets can remain neatly stored and regularly cleaned, even when they have been sitting unused for years.

Kohli added, "There will be expired items, from years ago, neatly & safely preserved, the bottles & packets wiped clean every month & put back on the shelf or refrigerator never to be used again."

He also encouraged people to take the suggestion as a reminder to inspect their own kitchens and dispose of expired products.

"Chalo let's do a Tukaram Munde cleaning of our kitchen shelves & refrigerator," he wrote.

Kohli's post comes at a time when the Maharashtra FDA has been conducting food safety inspections at restaurants, hotels, roadside eateries and other establishments involved in serving or supplying food. The inspections have also covered establishments that provide food through online delivery platforms. Authorities have taken action against businesses found violating food safety regulations, including issuing improvement notices and suspending licences in certain cases.
