If at the beginning of 2017 anyone would have said that the opening of docudrama Sachin - A Billion Dreams would be amongst the Top-10 of the year, it would have sounded unbelievable. However, this has happened indeed. Of course this can also be attributed to the fact that many other high profile releases of the year have disappointed so far. However, the fact also remain that a film like this to take an opening on the vicinity of Rs. 10 crore is no mean feat either, more so since this is not even a quintessential Hindi film that audiences are generally used to watching.
No wonder, it is time to celebrate the start that Sachin - A Billion Dreams has taken, what with Rs. 8.40 crore coming on its first day. It is a first for Indian audiences where a docudrama, and that too based on a sports personality, has seen such kind of response in mainstream entertainment zone. Moreover, for the film to take one of the best openings of the year is no mean feat as it is only going to grow further from this point on.
Another reason to celebrate for Bollywood is the success that Hindi Medium has turned out to be. The film has continued to be ultra-stable at the Box Office despite competition in the form of Sachin - A Billion Dreams and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 with some footfalls going to Half Girlfriend and even Baahubali 2. This was demonstrated in the second Friday collections of Rs. 2.82 crore which is greater than even the first Friday numbers of Rs. 2.81 crore! This is a first for 2017 and pretty much indicates that the film is here to stay. The content of this Saket Chaudhary directed film is working quite well with its target audience and while Rs. 28.03 crore has already come in, one can't really put a mark on the final number since the film has found a market of its own.
