Mani Ratnam magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, aka PS 1 which released last week has been garnering an impressive response from the audience. The epic saga about the Chola Empire and its heirs features an ensemble cast with Jayam Ravi essaying the role of Arulmozhi Varman aka Ponniyin Selvan and Chiyaan Vikram as his brother, Aditya Karikalan and Trisha Krishnan as their sister, Kunadavai. Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, who watched the film over the weekend, was left impressed with Ravi’s performance and called him up to tell about it personally to the actor. Thailavar’s gesture made the PS 1 actor proud and he took to social media to talk about it.

Jayam Ravi revealed on Twitter about the one minute conversation he had with Rajinikanth when the latter called him to appreciate his performance in the recently released Ponniyin Selvan aka PS 1. “That 1 minute conversation made my day, my year and added a whole new meaning to my career. Thank you Thalaiva for your kind words & childlike enthusiasm. I’m overwhelmed, humbled & blessed to know you loved the movie & my performance ???????? @rajinikanth sir.” Interestingly, Rajinikanth was also invited for the trailer launch of the film along with another Tamil superstar and his former co-star Kamal Haasan.

Coming to Ponniyin Selvan, the film is an adaptation of the novel by the same name written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Besides the trio of Jayam Ravi, Vikram, and Trisha, who play siblings, the film also features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Queen Nandini, Karthi as Prince Vanthiyathevan, among others. It also stars Sarathkumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prabhu, Jayaram in pivotal roles. Along with an ensemble cast, the film is also mounted on a lavish scale with its second instalment, expected to hit the big screens in the next nine months. PS 1 released on the big screens on September 30 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
