There are some scenes that bring in intentional smiles. And then there are some which are so absurd that they either make you laugh uncontrollably (unintentionally though) or force you to look the other way in disgust. Here is presenting some such gems that graced the screen in year 2010.
Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori uniting underwater [Kites]
By the time Kites reached its climax, audience had already lost patience. In fact the entire second half of the film was as incomprehensive and patchy as it gets. However, there was a lot of unintentional humour right there till the end once Hrithik Roshan commits suicide. That's because on his jump into the deep sea, his soul meets that of Barbara Mori who was dead long before. It was one 'aatmaaon ka milan' that was neither horrific (a la Ramsay stuff) nor dramatic (a la Ek Duje Ke Liye).
Vikram's hunt for Aishwarya Rai [Raavan]
Imagine you are a cop and your wife has been kidnapped by a bunch of hardcore goons. What you would do is go for the kill, make a hunt as never before and be totally terrified of what could possibly be in the store. However in Raavan, it was heroism redefined with Vikram - whose wife Aishwarya Rai has been kidnapped by Abhishek Bachchan - making time to sport his Ray Ban shades in practically every scene. This is not all. Even as he delegates Govinda to run errands for him (i.e. search his wife), Vikram makes it a habit to shave off his beard on a regular basis. Strange!
There have been cliched scenes in romcoms and there would be cliched scenes in romcoms. However, the one in Aisha took the cake (which wasn't quite sweet enough though) when Abhay Deol walked up a ladder to the balcony of Sonam Kapoor and professed his love for her. A scene that totally went against the character that was being played by Abhay till then, it was indeed the yawn inducing moment of Aisha.
Salman and Mithun fighting it out [Veer]
If the makers of Veer thought that they had a powerfully written scene at their disposal with the 'clash of the titans', they were all wrong. The climax of Veer featured Salman Khan and Mithun Chakraborty indulging into a sword fight and also getting into a hand to hand combat. A father and a son relationship had taken a different turn by the time this scene came but the impact was hardly felt. On the contrary, the scene only added to the length of this film which had gone totally haywire by the time it arrived.
Now this one was 'What the....' moment of the film. Well, in pretty much the literal sense. Agreed that Mallika Sherawat played a 'naagin' in Hisss. However, it was nothing but comical to see her enjoying coital pleasures not once but multiple times in the film. On one instance she was seen doing it with an electricity pole with her imaginations running wild. But the horror of the horrors was to actually see her enjoying her mouth to mouth outings with a snake that too was smart enough to make it's movements at just the right places. Naah, this was failed even for hardcore perverts!
Shah Rukh Khan rebuilding the village [My Name Is Khan]
In this terrific piece of cinema called My Name Is Khan, there were number of scenes that stood out due to the intrinsic high quality that they boasted of. However, one entire sequence which would forever remain as the weakest part of this Karan Johar drama would be the one where Shah Rukh Khan returns to Georgia to save a hurricane-ravaged hamlet. Really, the scene extended to an unlimited length and was exasperating after a point in time.
Shah Rukh Khan jumping into water [Dulha Mil Gaya]
There have been quite a few 'choto choti baatein' in 'bade bade shehar' ever since Shah Rukh Khan burst into the Bollywood scene 20 years back. However, this was one scene in Dulha Mil Gaya which even he would cringe upon if he happens to see it again. In one of those 'let's make you emotional' scenes of the film, Sushmita Sen's poodle falls into the sea. Our man doesn't take a second to make a quick decision and jumps in to get back the poodle. Really, the trademark grin of Shah Rukh couldn't be missed here though the same can't be said about the audience.
Hrithik Roshan getting a group hug [Guzaarish]
This one was meant to be 'let's get the house full of audience reach out for that tissue paper' scene of the film. However, what it led to was ton loads of laughter as audience, for the first time in this grim affair, actually felt a little relaxed. In this ever extending climax scene where all important characters of this Sanjay Leela Bhansali dream came together to give Hrithik a 'farewell of death', they pretty much choked him to a premature death by jumping all over him by giving him a group hug even as he lied out there in a comatose state. Mercy!
Shahid's speech in the reality show [Chance Pe Dance]
In the times when those thanksgiving speeches from award functions too are passe, it was surprising to see Chance Pe Dance going totally 90s by incorporating a scene that just didn't fit in the narrative. During his participation in a reality show, when dance expert Shahid Kapoor finds himself on an open stage with spot lights all over him, he decides to hang up his dancing shoes and aims at getting audience totally emotional instead. He makes a speech which is so listless and lifeless that it only makes one wish that the curtains came down the stage sooner than planned.
Gorilla fart in the climax [No Problem]
'Appalling' is the word to describe the gorilla fart that 'graced' the promos (as well as publicity stills) of the entire campaign of No Problem. Really, one wonders what was the idea behind getting this entire scene in place which was not just absurd but didn't add any value to the film's plot. Leaving aside the fact that the entire concept of gorillas being the key protagonists in No Problem was not quite decipherable, the fart sequence only made the matters worst. No wonder, the kids didn't smile either.
