“Whether it is a big or a small film, it’s a good concept that works” – Krishika Lulla

She started her career as a producer with a rather ambitious Toonpur Ka Superhero. Later she decided to take an experimental route while still staying in the realms of a commercial entertainer with Chalo Dilli. The film was a success and she dreamt bigger with Desi Boyz. Now close to two years down the line, from the foreign setting of the Akshay Kumar and John Abraham starrer, she has stuck to the roots once again with Raanjhanaa. While the promos of her Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor starrer are doing the trick, producer Krishika Lulla is now eagerly awaiting how her stint as a producer turns out with this Aanand L Rai directed affair.

What was it about the subject matter of Raanjhanaa that made you come on board for the film?
Everything that Aanand brought to be in his script was enticing enough for me to invest in it. More than anything else, I wanted to see how a story like this would actually play on screen. As an audience too, I was really interested and once I came on board as a producer, I along with Aanand really worked on it together.

The film is being noticed for its simplicity and the connect that it promises to make with the 'aam aadmi'.
Exactly. It's really one of those beautiful love stories that a common man can relate to. We have grown up on exploring love and then eventually finding it come our way as well. Dhanush and Sonam too take this journey over an extended period of time. They realise what true love is and that is possible only because they don't give up in the face of diversities or rejection.

Considering the fact that small to medium budget films with good concepts are working today, are you doubly confident about the prospects of Raanjhanaa?
From commercial prospective, definitely yes. See, people want to watch a good film. It has been proven time and again that whether it is a big or a small movie, it's a good concept and a good script that eventually works. People are recognising such kind of movies these days and the appreciation is resulting in good commercial results as well.

For you who comes from a film family (Eros), from being an entrepreneur collaborating with numerous acquisitions to someone making her own films today, how has the transition been?
My husband Sunil (Lulla) takes care of all the acquisitions while I make one or two films a year. He looks after the whole thing and I basically work under him. We have a good understanding and he is proud of Raanjhanaa.
