Varun Dhawan opens up on the Bollywood vs South films debate; says, “Even the South industries have given 7 to 8 major FLOPS” 7 : Bollywood News

“If it was in my hands, I would have shown you all the film today,” exclaimed Varun Dhawan at the beginning of the media interaction held to promote his upcoming film, JugJugg Jeeyo. Returning with a theatrical release after nearly 2 ½ hours, the actor seemed content and quite confident with his upcoming release, which is produced by Karan Johar.

The actor then explained what made him make this claim, “(I say so) because we are happy with the film. Also, from Karan’s behaviour, I can gauge how he’s feeling about it. When he’s too stressed about a film, he’ll himself scale up the promotion. In the case of JugJugg Jeeyo, I have to tell him ‘Thoda aur promote karte hai. Budget badhaate hai’. He tells me that ‘Iss film ka Sunday bahut bada hoga’.”

Such confidence is quite refreshing considering that box office at present has become unpredictable like never before. Several films flopped and on the other hand, the Hindi version of 3 South films – Pushpa, RRR and KGF Chapter 2 – turned out to be huge grossers.

Varun Dhawan shared his analysis on the success of these films, “I feel cinema is doing well right now. Every audience has the right to choose what kind of cinema they want to watch. Hollywood films have been working anyway for so many years. And people are liking films from the South and so, they are watching them. I, myself, enjoyed KGF - Chapter 2 so much. I had a great time watching it. No wonder that it is one of the biggest grossers right now.”

However, the success of these 3 South films happened at the same time when Bollywood delivered 7-8 major flops. At this, Varun Dhawan replied, “Even the South industries have given 7 to 8 major flops. And that also happened because nothing was released for almost 2 years. A lot of content that the producers held on to seemed outdated to the audiences. So, I feel that if a good film comes, it will work. And the Hindi film industry definitely has a lot of good films coming up.”

According to Varun Dhawan, the bottomline is, “Audience won’t watch a bad film, whether it’s an English, Hindi or a South film.”
