South Korean group TOMORROW X TOGETHER (Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Huening Kai) made their much-awaited debut on March 4, 2019. The quintet has since made waves in the industry and a place in the fans’ hearts with their noteworthy performances and meaningful songs. Their artistry invokes a curiosity, just like their song titles do! The group has delivered chart-topping numbers like ‘Crown’, ‘9 and Three Quarters’, to their latest hit ‘0X1=LOVESONG (I KNOW I LOVE YOU)’.

In 2021, TXT spoke exclusively to Bollywood Hungama on their second debut anniversary. Soobin, the leader of the group, recalled days leading up to their highly-anticipated debut under HYBE, “I remember each and every moment, including the days of hard work leading up to our debut. We grew up watching music videos on YouTube, so it felt surreal that we had filmed and released one, ourselves. We had done only covers previously, so I felt a sense of pride that we finally had our own song and choreography. It made me incredibly happy.”

On the group’s third anniversary, here’s a look at TXT’s outstanding B-side discography.

BLUE ORANGEADE [2019]

From the album, The Dream Chapter: Star, ‘Blue Orangeade’ is a funky pop romantic track. Right from the lyric video to the actual lyrics, the song is filled with quirky references and declarations of love. The song progresses on a level-headed tone, with adequate beat drops to attune one’s attention to the hook.

CAT & DOG [2019]

Love and infatuation can make one make abstract confessions that might not always make sense but somehow, they do. ‘Cat & Dog’ from The Dream Chapter: Star album is one such song. The song is a love confession, and quirky in every sense. The idea of barks and purrs in the chorus might seem out of place, but they complete the song. The trap-rap mix adds to the quirkiness of the song.

20CM [2019]

The seventh track of TXT's first full-length album The Dream Chapter: Magic, ‘20cm’ depicts the growth in height and also talks about the growth of first love and these romantic emotions for the first time. It is captivating and the harmonies and vocals are absolutely compelling.

MAGIC ISLAND [2019]

‘Magic Island’ is a soothing and somber number. The group belts out the lyrics as if speaking directly to one’s soul. This song, from the album The Dream Chapter: Magic, offers hope and light at the end of the tunnel. It attempts to dispel the quotidian swaying between light and darkness.

PUMA [2020]

TXT members personify a slick and dangerous wild animal Puma with their track ‘Puma’. The song, from the album The Dream Chapter: Eternity, is brimming with power that is unleased right at the moment the song begins. Puma’s dance choreography is smooth and suave replicating the wild animal’s stealthy movements in the wilderness.

ETERNALLY [2020]

From the album The Dream Chapter: Eternity, it is a soothing ballad seeking escape and redemption. ‘Eternally’ is a song that will leave its scent long after it has finished playing. The members cast a surreal charm with their singing. The rap verse with semi-rock elements is like a segue that only furthers the emotions highlighted in the song.

GHOSTING [2020]

From the album minisode 1: Blue Hour, Ghosting is that soft rock track that will creep up your senses and make a stronghold. All five members take turns to spin wintery magic with their breathy vocals. ‘Ghosting’ is a song about someone who has ‘ghosted’ and the anxiety and bewilderment that comes with it.

WE LOST THE SUMMER [2020]

From minisode 1: Blue Hour, ‘We Lost the Summer’ is a charming dance-pop track, despite speaking about a love lost. The song speaks about ‘losing a summer’ which symbolised the warm love of the couple. The tropical electro-synth and bass beats interspersed in the song give it an upbeat vibe.

FAIRY OF SHAMPOO (2020)

From The Dream Chapter: Eternity, ‘Fairy of Shampoo’ is a remake cover of the 90s song of the same name by Light & Salt. Yeonjun contributed to producing and writing the rap verses. The original song leaned to jazzy beats more, whereas TXT’s rendition adds more retro dance touch to it. The smooth jazzy and saxophone beats in the bridge and pre-chorus help retain the nostalgia in the song.

DEAR SPUTNIK [2021]

From the album, The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE, ‘Dear Sputnik ‘ alludes to the first artificial satellite from Earth – Sputnik 1. The group artfully uses the symbolism of space and satellites to make yet another confession. The rock guitar strums add a powerful punch to the track. Dear Sputnik is a perfect confession song for the lovers of astronomy and all-things-space. Taehyun and Huening Kai participated in the song-making process and the latter lists his first producing credit since debut.

ANTI-ROMANTIC [2021]

An absolute claim-worthy song from The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE album, ‘Anti-Romantic’ charmed the fans worldwide for its chilling music and snow-flake-like unique singing by TXT members. The song even made it to the micro-video sharing platforms with fans interpreting their version of the hook lyric ‘Sorry I’m an Anti-Romantic’. With this song, the group only gave further testament to their versatility as vocalists.

MAGIC [2021]

‘Magic’ accounts as the group’s first official English language single. The song is co-written by ‘Dear Darlin’’ fame Olly Murs. The song, from The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE, is flirty and it is a classic disco-pop track. It is a bright and refreshing summer song that celebrates “your” magical power to melt the ice around me. The song features a futuristic music video with the members belting rosy lyrics with breathy vocals.
