RGV explained how Urmila Matondkar was cast for the crucial role in the film, “I’ll tell you something that nobody would believe as to why I decided to cast Urmila in the role. This is because of one expression she gives in another completely different film. That expression got strongly embedded in my head. It is from the song ‘Haay Rama’ in Rangeela (1995)! The way she was wearing that red dress and looking intensely at Jackie Shroff; that close-up shot convinced me that she could pull off this role.”

He added, “I feel casting is the most important. What the characters are feeling on the screen is what the audience would feel, especially in horror films. The audience sees Ajay Devgn looking with fear. He’s a guy with an action image and he’s getting scared. So, this will scare the audience even more. So, I would say that actors play 80% of the role in creating impact while the sound, music, etc. contributes another 20%. After all, the purpose of the sound is to enhance the expression of the actor.”

A fan asked if anyone else besides Urmila Matondkar could have played the role. Ram Gopal Varma answered, “I can’t think of anyone. Even at that time, she was my first choice. I didn’t even think about anyone else.” But after a few seconds, he added, “However, I would probably say that today, maybe Kangana Ranaut can do justice to this part.”

Another fan asked whether his upcoming film is titled Police Station Mein Bhoot, as mentioned in the media reports. RGV confirmed, “Yes, that’s what my next film is called and it's releasing in May. It’s a horror comedy. It stars Manoj Bajpayee and Genelia (Deshmukh).”
