Ram Gopal Varma had an entertaining session on the first day of Red Lorry Film Festival 2026 before the screening of his cult film, Shiva (1990). RGV raised laughs as he revealed how he angered a veteran action director in his quest for realism.

Ram Gopal Varma said, "The action director was Raju, a veteran and a highly successful guy. He used to do all Chiranjeevi films. One of the first scenes we did was when the protagonist is returning home after watching a night show. He's walking alone. One guy comes and talks to him. Suddenly, the protagonist is attacked by a hockey stick. I narrated this shot to Raju master and I asked him to develop on it."
RGV added, "The next night, when I went to the shoot, I saw a bunch of tyres, bikes, jeeps, etc. I wondered why all those things were doing on my set. My assistants told me, 'Sir, Raju master got it for the fight scene'. I was like, 'What?'."
He continued, "Raju master told me, 'This guy is walking alone. Four burning tyres will come and start circling around him. Then four more burning tyres will be thrown from the roof. Now, eight burning tyres are circling! The focus shifts to ten bikes and one jeep. I told him, 'Raju master, this is not what I want. Please put it in one of the Chiranjeevi films! I want exactly the way I narrated; neither one shot more nor one shot less'."
Ram Gopal Varma stated, "He said, 'This is your first film while I have done more than 50 films. You can't teach me how to do action'. I retorted, 'Go home. I'll do it myself'!"
Ram Gopal Varma clarified, "What he said may work in some more films. I am not denying. But it'll work in a spectacle film and not in a film like Shiva."
