Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has responded to the controversy surrounding an old tweet he had posted about actor Kiara Advani, which had drawn criticism on social media when it resurfaced. Speaking in a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Varma said he does not clearly recall the exact wording of the tweet that later went viral. He explained that he posts frequently on social media and therefore does not remember the details of many older posts.
“I really don’t remember what exactly I wrote or what I said in the tweet because I put so many tweets, and it was such a long time back,” Varma said during the interaction. He added that the context of his remark was linked to a promotional image used in a trailer featuring the actor.
According to Varma, his comment was intended as a compliment rather than criticism. “My whole point is if you’re putting an image like that in terms of a trailer — a beautiful girl in a bikini, which is supposed to provoke something. I would think of it as a backhanded compliment in the context of how I felt about it,” he explained.
The director further stated that he has historically been candid about expressing admiration for actresses. Referring to his earlier work, he said that he has never shied away from speaking openly about beauty in cinema, even during the time of films like Rangeela, which starred Urmila Matondkar and others he has spoken about in the past.
Varma also maintained that he does not intend to alter his personal style of expression. “I will do everything the way I am. I’m not going to change myself as a person in the way I express myself, my thoughts, and all that, but my cinema will be different,” he said. When asked why the tweet was eventually deleted, the filmmaker admitted that he does not recall the reason behind removing it.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Kiara Advani was last seen in War 2, which was a part of the YRF Spy Universe. The film also starred Hrithik Roshan and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. in key roles.
