Kunal Kemmu on work hours Debate: ‘If you want control, become a producer’

en Bollywood News Kunal Kemmu on work hours Debate: ‘If you want control, become a producer’

Actor and filmmaker Kunal Kemmu recently shared his views on the debate around work hours in the film industry, saying that actors who want greater control over schedules should consider taking on the role of producers. His comments came during a podcast conversation with Soha Ali Khan and Saif Ali Khan, where the discussion touched on work-life balance and the realities of working in show business.

During the conversation, Kemmu said that professionals often choose careers knowing the demands they involve. According to him, the nature of the film industry can sometimes require long or unpredictable working hours, and those entering the profession should be aware of these expectations. “As adults, when we grow up, we choose what we want to become in life. Once you sign up for something, you need to understand that it comes with certain expectations,” he said. Kemmu added that actors seeking more control over their schedules may need to take on additional responsibilities within the industry. “Sometimes people say they want to work only for limited hours… but then you should choose a job that allows that,” he said, suggesting that becoming a producer can offer more authority over decisions such as working hours and production timelines.

His remarks come amid ongoing conversations about work-life balance in the film industry, especially after discussions around structured working hours for actors gained attention recently. Kemmu also emphasised that the issue should not necessarily be viewed through a gender lens, noting that the nature of the profession itself often dictates the schedule.

Kemmu has been active in Hindi cinema for over two decades, appearing in films such as Kalyug, Go Goa Gone and Malang. In 2024, he made his directorial debut with Madgaon Express, a comedy film produced by Excel Entertainment. The film featured actors including Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi and Avinash Tiwary.
