Actor Pulkit Samrat recently revisited the early phase of his career and reflected on how his television debut with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi marked a decisive moment in his professional journey. What began as a reluctant audition eventually led to his entry into one of Indian television’s most influential shows, bringing him early recognition across the country.
In an interview with Mashable, Pulkit shared that he was initially hesitant to take up television work, particularly daily soaps, as he was unsure if it aligned with his aspirations as an actor.
“I remember saying I didn’t want to do TV serial-type work. I wanted something more versatile,” he said.
Despite his reservations, the casting team maintained that the role offered something different and encouraged him to consider it seriously. The turning point came when Pulkit was told that Ekta Kapoor wanted to meet him. Acting on their insistence, he travelled to Mumbai overnight.
According to Pulkit, Ekta Kapoor had already seen his photographs and called him in for a meeting. Soon after, he underwent grooming, including a screen test, which was sent across immediately. The process moved quickly, and his interaction with Kapoor proved decisive.
“Okay, done. Ready,” Pulkit recalled her saying.
Amid the sudden development, Pulkit requested a brief return to Delhi, as his parents were unaware of what had transpired. He cited a medical reason for the short trip, but said it was important for him to see his family before committing fully to the opportunity.
“Landing in Delhi, I saw my parents waiting at the airport. There were tears, hugs, and barely any words,” he said. “Within hours, I was back on a flight to Mumbai — returning to the sets.”
Pulkit was introduced as part of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’s generational leap.
“Overnight, brother — overnight, I was a household name,” Pulkit said while recalling the period.
Following his television success, Pulkit Samrat transitioned to films and went on to explore varied genres, from intense performances in films like Taish to mainstream popularity with the Fukrey franchise. He is currently looking ahead to projects such as Rahu Ketu and Glory.
