With many taking courageous steps against menstruation and period-shaming, Neha Dhupia too has extended herself towards a campaign. The actress took to social media requesting audiences to break free from period taboos. And her recent post on Facebook has grabbed attention as Neha urges everyone to share Whisper’s Break Silence challenge.
Sharing the video of the Whisper commercial on her Facebook, Neha Dhupia also posted a note along with it. The actress opened up about her periods and how she dealt with the varied taboos that were attached with it. In the post, Neha referred to herself as a tom boy and stressed on incidents that led to period-shaming.
She said, “I was always a tomboy who’d sit the way I’d like, jump around and play with the boys. And then hit puberty, when all of a sudden I was expected to behave ‘like a girl’ – especially on the days I was menstruating. Some of my friends were stopped from entering the kitchen and scolded for wanting to go out and play. Till one day, when I broke down in front my dad, clouded by these million inhibitions, expectations. He held my hand and said softly to me, “There’s no way anybody or anything can stop you from being who you are, doing what you want to do.” It only took a whisper of encouragement to set me free!”
Neha went on to add. “Tell me about the time when someone in your life normalised periods for you, or if you brought that change in someone’s life. Don’t forget to use #WhispersBreakSilence. For every story that you share, #Whisper will donate a pack of sanitary napkins to girls who don’t have access to sanitary hygiene. Every story counts. #WhispersBreakSilence.”
Neha Dhupia, who was last seen in Tumhari Sulu, is busy with the show Vogue BFFs. The show has been a star studded affair with Shahid Kapoor – Mira Rajput, Katrina Kaif – Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone – Anisha Padukone as some of the guests.
