Actor Mrunal Thakur who successfully made her way from television to the big screen recently spoke about her childhood, her struggle in the industry, and her aspirations in an interview with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia. Mrunal also spoke about the time she doubted herself and nothing seemed good.
Mrunal Thakur says a sensitive topic from her recent interview has been misunderstood and sensationalized- “Such incidents make public figures wary of speaking honestly”However, a part of the interview dealing with a sensitive topic has been widely reported. The said reports quote Mrunal's alleged suicidal tendency during her college days. "I used to travel by local trains. I used to stand at the door and sometimes, I would feel like jumping off," she has been quoted in the reports.
However, Mrunal has clarified that the reports have been published without context. In the 90 minute long interview, Mrunal spoke about several phases of her life in depth.
On Friday, the actress took to her social media handle to highlight that part of the interview that was reported without proper context and requested all to watch the interview in its entirety. “A recent interview I did-in which I spoke candidly about my childhood, and about my journey as an actor so far- appears to have been extracted out of context to highlight one sensitive topic that has been completely misunderstood and sensationalized by several media outlets. While I stand by the interview that I did, incidents like these make public figures wary of speaking honestly to the media. I urge you to watch the interview in full, and I request my friends in the media not to quote me out of context or pull out portions that might make for sensational headlines," she wrote.

In the interview, Mrunal also said that she wanted to become a crime journalist and appear on TV but her parents wanted her to become a dentist. She eventually managed to convince her parents to let her take a course in mass communications, however, it did not turn out the way she had expected it to be. "When you choose a course, it looks very fun on the outside but until you do it, you don’t realise that you didn’t sign up for this, this is something else. That is what was happening with me. I am a creative person. I can’t write scripts. There was a subject called literature… I don’t like reading, I am more of a listener, I like watching things. I used to feel, ‘What did I sign up for?’ There was that self-doubt. I was staying away from my family. At the age of 17-18, living alone in a city like Mumbai is not easy. You have to take care of your rent and food. You have to account for every rupee. And because my father is a banker, if I withdrew even ₹500 from my account, he would get to know," she added.
