Kriti Sanon has given some fine performances in her career in films like Bareily Ki Barfi, Mimi among others. The actress is now all set to add yet another prominent film to her filmography in the form of Shehzada with Kartik Aaryan.
In an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, when Kriti was asked if she is selective about her films, she said “I don’t think I was going like I need to have something different, so let’s add this. I think when he (director Rohit Dhawan) just narrated the film, firstly I loved the narration. I remember laughing really hard. I remember getting teary eye in an emotional scene. So, I was feeling everything that he was saying, and I felt it was very well written. It was very entertaining even while I was hearing it, not watching it.”
She further added, “I have grown up watching 90s films. I love watching such films. It’s nice to be a part of it. I had also done something extremely heavy like Mimi and I was wanting to do something lighter, slightly fresher, slightly more glamorous.”
Recalling her earlier days in the industry, she said, “I remember in the beginning of my career, people were like she is more of a glam sort of a heroine. She can’t do good in a small-town film. Once I started Bareily Ki Barfi, I only got small town stuff. So, I felt like I need to make a shift, now I feel like playing an urban girl. He (Rohit Dhawan) presents his actors really well. He has got great aesthetic sense. For me it was refreshing and am coming from something really heavy; I wanted to go into something lighter and entertaining like this.”
Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan had also given a good performance in his previous film Freddy. When asked if this switch from Freddy to Shehzada was planned, he said, “It can be with the choices you are making, but the release can’t be planned. So that is one thing I did not plan. But yes, there was a conscious planning, conscious decision of choosing a film which I feel was maybe different from each other in terms of the character that I am playing or the world that the film is showcasing. With Dhamaka, Freddy, Bhool Bhulaiya 2, Shehzada, all these films are really poles apart basically. So, for me to play a character which goes into that dark alley like Dr. Freddy, I had to undergo a lot of training sessions over there in terms of body language or stuff like that. I remember I had a schedule with Rohit Dhawan soon after I got done with Freddy.”
Kartik also revealed that director Rohit Dhawan had noticed a change in him post Freddy shoot. Kartik said, “He (Rohit Dhawan) pointed it out that I am much more quieter, my body language has changed and suddenly I am not that front-footed guy. Thankfully, we only had couple of days of shoot and then we had a big break and then we shot for it (Shehzada). So it was there in my mind that I had to get out of this Freddy vibe/Freddy zone.”
Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon were first seen together in Luka Chuppi in 2019. Shehzada marks their second collaboration. The film is slated to hit theatres on February 17, 2023.
On the other hand, Kriti, apart from Shehzada, will be next seen in The Crew alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Tabu, Adipurush opposite Prabhas. The actress will also be seen opposite Shahid Kapoor in an untitled film under Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films banner.
As for Kartik future releases, post-Shehzada, Kartik Aaryan will be seen in Satyaprem Ki Katha with Kiara Advani.
