Singer-songwriter and rapper King has teamed up with some of the most iconic voices of 1990s Hindi music for his latest album, Raja Hindustani. The project brings together celebrated singers such as Kumar Sanu, Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Rekha Bhardwaj.
The album draws inspiration from the nostalgia surrounding the 1996 hit film Raja Hindustani, which starred Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor.
Talking about the inspiration behind the album, King shared that he wanted to create music that feels timeless. He said, “The idea was to create music and a world that feels timeless. I’ve grown up listening to all these voices, and I wanted to create a body of work that showcases my love for timeless Indian melodies.”
The singer further spoke about the impact these legendary artists have had on generations of listeners. He added, “These are artistes whose songs have shaped how we understand love, heartbreak, and longing, so I wanted these voices that already live in our collective memory.”
King also described recording with Kumar Sanu as a particularly special moment in the process. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “The way he approaches music is so pure and instinctive. It reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place.”
With Raja Hindustani, King blends contemporary sound with the nostalgia of classic Hindi melodies, bringing together generations of musical voices in a tribute to the golden era of Bollywood music.
