EXCLUSIVE: Sanjana Sanghi on Kadak Singh’s screening at IFFI, “Pankaj Tripathi sir and I had tears rolling down our faces”

Kadak Singh sees Pankaj Tripathi plays a character who suffers from retrograde amnesia.

The makers of ZEE5 film Kadak Singh launched the film’s trailer recently at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Following that, the Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjana Sanghi starrer also had its world premiere at the same festival on November 22. The film and the performances of Sanjana and Tripathi received appreciation from the audience.

Sanjana shared her reaction to the experience at IFFI in an exclusive quote saying, “The last few days at IFFI have been something right out of a dream. I say this truly from my heart because that feeling of launching our trailer in a stadium full of thousands of avid cinemagoers and stalwart filmmakers, and actors from all over the world felt like a moment dipped in gratitude and a pat on the back. Kadak Singh truly is a film that is rare; it is genre-breaking, and it kind of melts genres. So, I would like to use the term genre-melting as well. That's why everyone who's in it and has been involved in making it has felt so passionately about it.”

Throwing light on the challenges, the actress added, “And even when things seem like they won't happen, somehow or another, we would always find a solution. And the film, kind of always speaks about that as well. So, the trailer launch was surreal, is what I had thought until the world premiere happened. I had elephants fighting in my stomach out of nervousness in the lead-up to it. And then I was told in the morning that there is a little bit of a fight going on for access to the auditorium because all 450 seats were packed. It was already house full and no sitting on the aisles, etc. is allowed at IFFI. And now we had calls coming in from all kinds of people asking us, how to be able to see the film. And I was perched up there, sitting between Pankaj Tripathi, my beloved co-actor, and Ritesh Shah, who is an absolute genius and is the writer of our film.”

Sharing the experience of the screening, Sanjana said, “I could look over the 450 people who had their eyes, fortunately, glued to the screen. I could see that for 2 hours they did not move from their seat. We had tears rolling down our faces, Pankaj sir and I. By the end of the film, as the titles started playing out, the audience erupted into an applause, turned around and looked at us. I wish I could define that moment. It has been a career-defining one for me. One that I will hold so close to my heart, and one that has set us off as the beginning of our journey of sharing Kadak Singh with the world on such a special and grand note. So, I could not be more grateful.”

Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Kadak Singh will stream on ZEE5 from December 8.
