EXCLUSIVE: Ranveer Singh had to change his body mechanics to get his bowling stance right for Kapil Dev’s role in ‘83 83 : Bollywood News

Yesterday, team ’83 released their official portraits from a very classy photoshoot. The photos have left all of us with our jaws on the floors as the men of ’83 look sharp dressed to their T. From Ranveer Singh, to Tahir Raj Bhasin, to Harddy Sandhu, to Ammy Virk, the cast was dressed in black suits with a white shirt and blue ties and we have fallen for them all over again. Kabir Khan being the methodical director he is, made his team undergo some rigorous physical training for their roles.

It has been over 5 months that Ranveer Singh has been under some serious physical training for his role as Kapil Dev. When Bollywood Hungama exclusively asked him about the process he underwent to get into the skin of his character, he said, “We went to Juhu’s ground on the first day, Kabir sir and Sandhu sir were with us. On first day of work on the film ’83, my batting was decent. The report card for my batting was pretty okay and the technique was also not bad. But, bowling was embarrassing. I’m at least happy to report that I’ve come a long way from day 1. It’s been about 5 months of work; I’ve had to also change my body mechanics. My body was not mechanically able to execute Kapil Sir’s bowling action. So, I had to actually train, do some rigorous physical conditioning to change the mechanics of how my body works in order to get somewhere close to that action. But, you’re very right! It is perhaps the hardest part about playing this character is to achieve that distinctive bowling action but I’m at it.”

’83 is slated to release on April 10, 2020 and is based on the historic win of the Indian Cricket Team when they brought the first World Cup home, post-independence. With an extensive star cast, this Kabir Khan directorial is surely going to win a lot of hearts!
