Akshay Kumar is reuniting with filmmaker Priyadarshan for the upcoming horror comedy Bhooth Bangla, and the collaboration has brought back memories of one of their earlier projects. The actor recently spoke about returning to a familiar shooting location that holds significance from Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007).
Reflecting on the experience, Akshay Kumar shared, “My first day for Bhool Bhulaiyaa I had shot in Chomu Palace in Jaipur. And now, for Bhooth Bangla I again returned to the same palace. That is the bungalow which is there in the film. It’s a beautiful palace. Unbelievable energy. And the people are lovely there.”
The return to Chomu Palace not only marks a nostalgic moment for the actor but also connects the new film to a location closely associated with one of his earlier successes in the horror-comedy space.
Meanwhile, Priyadarshan addressed the ongoing comparisons between Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Bhooth Bangla, highlighting the distinction in their narrative approach. He said, “There is a difference here - because a lot of people are comparing Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Bhooth Bangla. So that was a psychological thriller. Here it's a fantasy. That is important. Please underline that — that is a psychological”.
Elaborating further on the concept, he added, “Basically, you know — people believe in India about all – about folklore, mythology, a lot of people even believe that black magic is there. And also they say that you can transfer — your soul into another person's body — what you call —they say tele-transportation, teleportation — all those things. There are a lot of people who believe in black magic in India even today. So based on all these things, we have made a fantasy and with humor. That's it”.
Bhooth Bangla marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan after over a decade since Khatta Meetha in 2010. The film blends elements of horror and comedy, drawing from themes rooted in Indian mythology and folklore.
Set in a haunted mansion, the story follows Akshay Kumar’s character Arjun, who begins as a skeptic but gradually finds himself caught in unexplained supernatural events involving a demon named Vadhusur. The film also features an ensemble cast including Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Mithila Palkar, along with veteran actors like Manoj Joshi and the late Asrani.
Backed by Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films, Bhooth Bangla is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 10, 2026, and is positioned as a family-oriented entertainer with a mix of supernatural elements and humour.
