Anil Thadani, the founder of the well-known distribution group AA Films, recently spoke exclusively with Bollywood Hungama on the occasion of six years of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Along with the SS Rajamouli movie, he also spoke about films that he would be releasing in theatres in the coming months of the year.
When asked which of his future films he has high hopes from, Thadani said, “I have a lot of hopes in Adipurush. I feel that could again potentially be a game-changer. I am hoping for that. The star cast is huge, the director is a big success, the production house is a brand; the combination is amazing.”
Directed by Om Raut, Adipurush is based on the ancient Indian epic Ramayana. The film will see Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage in the roles of Lord Ram, Sita, Raavan, Lakshman and Hanuman respectively.
AA Films also struck gold with the Hindi version of the Telugu movie Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1, which became a runaway hit also in the Hindi market. Sharing what worked for the Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna starrer, Thadani said, “The hero’s aura, superb direction and the stardom of the actor, of course. These are the kind of films our audiences were not used to seeing. They lap up these films because in the north they tend to make different kind of films. This was something that they enjoy seeing, this zone of a film.”
Naturally, he has high hopes from Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2 as well. “Pushpa 2 is a potential film to create records again,” he said.
With south films doing well in the Hindi market, a lot of filmmakers and stakeholders, both from south and Hindi, are advocating the identity of all Indian films as Indian cinema, irrespective of which ‘wood’ a film belongs too. Thadani also believes in this. “This is all Indian cinema at the end of it all. Today we are dubbing our Hindi films in other languages. Recently, I released a Bengali film Chengiz pan-India. It’s becoming pan-India. It’s becoming one unit. That’s the best thing,” he said.
