Anupam Kher asserts that he is India-centric, not politically inclined; says, “I am an Indian and my first interest is India” : Bollywood News

Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher discussed his connection to politics and made it clear that his focus is on the welfare of the nation. Even though Anupam's wife Kirron Kher is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Anupam himself has never formally joined any political party. Anupam also mentioned that he could have joined a political party if he had desired to do so.

Kher told ANI, “Whenever there’s an issue happening and if I talk my mind out, people think that it’s a political issue. Ideologically I am an Indian and my first interest is India. Now if the present government thinks more about India then automatically I can be associated with them. But if I wanted to join a political party I would have joined it.”

He further added, “I am India-centric. If people want to confuse that with politics that is their problem.” In the course of that discussion, he also discussed the reasons why celebrities might prefer to keep their political beliefs private. He said, “I think actors have a fan base, people base. In today's time, it can be easily misconstrued. It can easily get into issues. Warna pehle bhi they. There is a certain section of people, Dev Anand Sahab, Vijay Anand Sahab, they supported a particular ideology. They were vocal and saath me kaam hota rehta tha (work existed side by side).”

Meanwhile on the professional front, Anupam Kher was last seen in Shiv Shastri Balboa alongside Neena Gupta. The actor has many interesting projects lined up in his pipeline. He has started working on The Vaccine War as well. This is his third collaboration with director Vivek Agnihotri after Buddha In A Traffic Jam and last year's blockbuster The Kashmir Files. The actor also has Kangana Ranaut's directorial Emergency. Some of his other films include Kuch Khatta Ho Jaaye, Anurag Basu's Metro In Dino with Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara Ali Khan, The Signature with Mahima Chaudhry, IB71 and Nautanki.
