But at the same time, one film that has taken the ticket window by surprise purely through its content rather than any big name attached to it is Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12^th Fail, which stars Vikrant Massey in the lead. The film had a quiet release on its first day, but the positive word-of-mouth took it to a high pedestal, making it a surprise success of 2023.

12^th Fail has been receiving praises from a number of Indian film celebrities. Now we can add the name of Rinki Roy to the list, daughter of legendary filmmaker Bimal Roy. Rinki sent a handwritten note to Vidhu Vinod Chopra, which read, “Dear Vinod, Thank you for making a film that inspires and elevates us. Well done. More work like this. Rinki Roy.” Chopra shared the note on his Instagram story and replied, “Elated to receive such kind words from Rinki Roy.”

12^th Fail is based on the life of the IPS (Indian Police Service) officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and his struggles to achieve his goal. His role is portrayed by Vikrant Massey while Medha Shankar played his wife. The film is adapted from Anurag Pathak’s novel ‘Twelfth Fail: Hara Vahi Jo Lada Nahi.’
