The press conference of Bastar - The Naxal Story was held today in Mumbai in the presence of actors Adah Sharma and Indira Tiwari, producer Vipul Shah, director Sudipto Sen, co-producer Aashin A Shah, lyricist Amarnath Jha and composer Bishakh Jyoti. The team launched the song 'Vande Veeram' and also brought on stage those who lost their loved ones in the attack by Naxalites. Vipul Shah, as expected, made some headline-worthy quotes.
A journalist asked about the recent development wherein 43 BJP workers in Chhattisgarh have been provided security after the murder of two of their party workers by Maoists. Vipul was asked why politicians get security and not the aam junta.
The producer replied, “Har jaan zaroori hai. If those leaders are facing a threat to life, they deserve security. If Naxalism is wiped out, then there won’t be any need to provide security. In our country, if certain people can’t live without security, toh yeh ek bahut bada problem hai. Why should we need security, that too, to live in our country?”
Vipul Shah said that he, too, was suggested to take security after the release of his 2023 controversial flick, The Kerala Story, “After The Kerala Story’s release, Mumbai Police tried their best to convince us that ‘aap security lijiye’. Humne zidd ki thi ki hum nahin lenge. India is our country. If we have made a film highlighting a problem in our country, toh hum security leke nahin jiyenge.” But he added, “However, this is possible in Mumbai. Bastar mein yeh karna namumkin hai.”
Has Vipul Shah got any threats for Bastar - The Naxal Story? He answered, “Until now, there hasn’t been any threat. During the release of The Kerala Story, we were termed liars. Their grouse was about our claim that 32,000 women have gone missing in Kerala. A month after the film’s release, Sudipto Sen and I uploaded a video on YouTube, where we proved our claim. Then, we asked media channels to debate on it. But no one debated as those opposing us were not ready to do so.”
Vipul then exulted, “Hence, those who labelled as propagandists have now realized that inke saamne bolne ka koi faayda nahin hai. They now know that ki hum sach ke saath ladenge aur unko bilkul bhi mauka nahin denge. As a result, for Bastar - The Naxal Story, there’s no protest, no threat and no name-calling.”
Vipul Shah later also clarified saying, “We don’t want to get into politics. We want to focus on human tragedy. We often slam politicians and feel that the issue is over. It’s the common people who suffer and their tragedy needs to be talked about.”
He ended his talk by stating, “Even my commercial films have patriotism. When you see lakhs of people suffer, you feel obliged to tell their story. We feel lucky to get the opportunity to bring their pain on celluloid. Anyway, we don’t get scared if someone threatens us (smiles).”
