The Amazon Prime Video event held today in Mumbai turned out to be a memorable one for several reasons. The event started with a bang with the promotion of the streaming giant’s much awaited international show, Fallout. This was followed by the title announcement of Citadel’s next season – Citadel Honey Bunny – and also the launch of the teaser.
Karan Johar, the host of the event, described lead actor Varun Dhawan as “Student of the year to hopefully spy of the year!”
Varun Dhawan then came on stage, and he touched Karan Johar’s feet! Before KJo could process what happened, lead actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, too, followed suit. Karan reacted with a “No!” this time, leading to laughter among the attendees.
Varun Dhawan said, “I think everyone should touch Karan’s feet.” KJo quipped, “I am finding my mid-life crisis. I don’t want you all to put me in place!” To which, Varun joked, “I don’t think we realize how old Karan is because he does a great job with his dermatologist!” Karan immediately refuted the allegation, “There are lots of people who have done jobs on their faces. I am not one of them.”
The event turned serious as Krishna DK talked about Citadel Honey Bunny, “We put Varun and Samantha through a really, really hard time during the making of this (show)!” He then told Varun, “This show marks a new league in his career, the one of being an action star!”
After the teaser was shown, Karan Johar was blown away and told Varun, “When did you become hot?” Varun continued with his jokes, “I try to learn from you, on a daily basis!”
When asked why such a title for the show, Raj Nidimoru explained, “We try to do new each time. This time, we want into intense, drama, action, love story territory. But we wanted a title that still represents the quirk (that we are known for). Honey and Bunny are terms of endearment.”
Varun Dhawan got into a serious mood as he said, “I am filled with so much gratitude today. I’d like to say a big thank you to the team of Amazon and Raj-DK for backing us.”
He revealed, "When I saw the season 2 of The Family Man, I told DK, ‘I am a big fan of your work. How do I work with you both?’ He replied, ‘There’s something secretive happening. We are doing something with the Russo Brothers. But I can’t tell you!’ He remembered that I had reached out to him (and offered me the show).”
Varun Dhawan also thanked Karan Johar, who launched him in Student Of The Year (2012). “To have this special day with Karan Johar means the world to me. I won’t be on this stage or any stage in life if not for this man,” he said.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu exulted, “I would have never imagined that I could do action. Being at this event is already a victory for me because until the last moment, I didn’t think I could do it.” She added, “I can’t even believe that this is how it looks!”
