Yet another real story coming on the big screen and aiming to entertain audience at large – That’s what Raj Kumar Gupta directed Raid is set out for when it releases in a few days from now. While Ajay Devgn has been known for quite a few hard hitting dramas that he has featured in over the last 25 odd years, Raid promises to add on to his repertoire.
“That’s right, the film is inspired by one particular incident and one real person,” says Gupta who has shown in the past too that he has a knack for bringing such tales on screen, courtesy films like No One Killed Jessica and Aamir, “That said, I also wanted to bring about a lot of good things that other people had done as well. We must also consider the fact that there was immense contribution from other officials and their wives as well.”
In the film, while Ajay Devgn is set out on a mission to recover crores is black money from a local ‘baahubali’ played by Saurabh Shukla, there are other likeminded officials who join him on this mission as well.
“In these kind of films when you are talking about a department or a person in a particular space or job, there were various other stories that come about as well. Lot of things get drawn from other real life incidents. Ajay is a representation of other people as well though the story in particular is inspired by that one true event,” elaborates Gupta.
One had always wondered that in a dramatic set up like this that revolves around a raid, what part would the leading lady Ileana D’Cruz play in the narrative.
“See, as you can also see in a dialogue mouthed by Ajay in the film, if not for the bravery demonstrated by the wives, men can’t be expected to do their job when it comes to something as dangerous as this. Remember that conducting a raid in the 80s was nothing short of hazardous in many cases. This is where women played such an important part in keeping up a brave face. Ileana plays one such woman. This is the reason why I have maintained that though Raid is inspired by one true incident and a real person, at the end of the day it is a representation of all the people who have done so much great work,” he says.
We look forward to all of that and more once the film releases next Friday.
