en Bollywood News #2022Recap: A to Z of Bollywood in 2022

Like any other year, 2022 was a roller-coaster ride filled with some significant, pleasantly surprising as well as astonishing events that took place and the manner in which some films performed at the box office. In a bid to understand this tumultuous and exciting year, we at Bollywood Hungama on a lighter note decided to redevelop the English alphabets from A-Z keeping in mind the important events of the year

#2022Recap: A to Z of Bollywood in 2022

A – Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Pathak

#2022Recap: A to Z of Bollywood in 2022

Alia Bhatt delivered a healthy baby as well as three films, all of which were hits – Gangubai Kathiawadi, Darlings and Brahmastra. Abhishek Pathak and Ajay Devgn, meanwhile, surprised everyone with the Rs. 200 crore plus grosser, Drishyam 2.

B – Boycott, Besharam Rang

The boycott group continued their senseless tirade and even took credit for the debacles of some films. Their most amusing protest was against the song ‘Besharam Rang’ from Pathaan.

C – Cirkus

The much-awaited film shockingly opened to poor houses and flopped after the negative word of mouth poured in.

D – Darling

Two films with ‘Darling’ in their titles – Darlings and Monica O My Darling – were released on Netflix and received unanimous acclaim.

E – Enigmatic and out of the world VFX

Brahmastra got a mixed response and yet, viewers went to see it in hordes thanks to the never-before-seen VFX.

F – Firoz Nadiadwala

The producer was in news for announcing (in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive interview) that Hera Pheri 3 is in the offing and also for reportedly planning a Rs. 700 crores film on Mahabharat, that too in 5D! He also got talked about when reports came in that Akshay Kumar is out of Hera Pheri 3 while Kartik Aaryan has signed the film.

G – Gehraiyaan

This Shakun Batra-directorial had some steamy scenes and a sudden thrilling track. While some loved it, the rest loathed it.

H – Hrithik Roshan, Varun Dhawan

Both had a not-so-great year. Hrithik Roshan’s sole film, Vikram Vedha, flopped. Varun Dhawan’s films, JugJugg Jeeyo and Bhediya, didn’t flop but were not huge hits either

I – IFFI

The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) usually has a non-controversial run. This year, it gave birth to a raging controversy after Israeli screenwriter Nadav Lapid spoke against The Kashmir Files.

J – Jacqueline Fernandez

The actress was in the news after she was grilled several times by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) along with Nora Fatehi.

K – KGF, Kantara, Karthikeya 2, (The) Kashmir Files

As expected, KGF - Chapter 2 emerged as a blockbuster and even entered the Rs. 400 crores club. Kantara and Karthikeya 2, meanwhile, were the surprise hits from down South. The Kashmir Files, on the other hand, emerged as the biggest Bollywood blockbuster of 2022.

L – Laal Singh Chadha, Liger

Both these films were released in August and bombed miserably.

M – Manjulika

She terrified as well as entertained us and no wonder, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was such a super-hit.

N – National issue

The whole nation laughed out loud when a lady called Ranveer Singh’s nude photoshoot episode a ‘national issue’.

O – Oscars

All eyes are on March 2023 when the 95th Academy Awards will be held and hopefully, we can see RRR winning an Oscar.

P – Paan masala

Akshay Kumar endorsed Vimal and he got massively trolled, forcing him to backtrack. He didn’t have a great year as all his films flopped.

Q – Quality matters the most than ever before

The message is clear – mediocrity will not work and quality products will get revered like never before.

R – Remake

It was believed that remakes won’t work this year, as evident by the collections of films like Jersey, Vikram Vedha, Mili, Laal Singh Chaddha etc. But then came Drishyam 2 and it surprised one and all.

S – Sooraj Barjatya

The humble and soft-spoken filmmaker released Uunchai and many viewers went to see the film just because he was associated with it.

T – Tabu and Kartik Aaryan

They were the ultimate winners of the year. Both Tabu’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Drishyam 2 were huge hits. Kartik Aaryan pulled audiences to cinemas through his star power and talent for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Then, in Freddy, he showed a different shade and added to his fan following.

U – Urvashi Rautela, Uorfi Javed

Both remained in news throughout the year, the former for her alleged comments on Rishabh Pant and the latter for her provocative dressing

V – Vivek Agnihotri

His career got a boost with the super-success of The Kashmir Files. He, however, also remained in the news for the wrong reasons like the IFFI controversy or his court case over his tweet.

W – Web series and films

Though the cinema business was back on track, viewers continued to watch web series. The number of direct-to-digital films, however, reduced this year.

X – (E)xtreme collections of films

While some films did much better than expected, a few of them were such big flops that they struggled to cross the Rs. 10 crores or even Rs. 5 crores mark.

Y – YRF

The reputed production house, Yash Raj Films, had a terrible year as all its films flopped.

Z – Zero audience

Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad and many other films got trolled after exhibitors had to cancel shows due to no audience.
