A start has been taken by Dhokha Round D Corner. In a year where the biggest of the films with budgets ranging from Rs. 50-100 crores have struggled to get an opening of Rs. 2-3 crores, a Rs. 15 crores budgeted film has come and gathered Rs. 1.25 crores on its first day. What’s all the more impressive is that this has happened with reduced ticket prices and a very restricted release. Had there been capacity available, the collections would have been better.
Of course, on the flip side reduced ticket prices helped on enhanced footfalls as well, so it kind of balances out the entire scenario and perhaps a Rs. 1 crore start would have been more at par. All of that will matter though if the word of mouth is positive enough to attract a good count of audiences on Saturday and Sunday as well. Of course the footfalls won’t be on the same levels as Friday but even if they are half of it, the collections would rise by around 50% since the ticket rates are higher now.
Director Kookie Gulati’s last release was The Big Bull which was released straight on OTT and now with Dhokha Round D Corner he has made an entertaining popcorn munching film. With Madhavan, Khushalii Kumar, Darshan Kumaar and Aparshakti Khurana clearly having fun while making this plot based thriller set in one day, Dhokha Round D Corner could do well to hang in there and collect as much as it can in its first week in theatres.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
