I take movie titles very seriously. While RGV got away with the title of his Sholay remake few years ago, I won't let Mr Rai get away with this absurd title of his. How obnoxious does Tanu Weds Manu: Returns sound? Essentially, the film picks up where it left off in the prequel i.e. start of the matrimony of the protagonists - Manu (Madhavan) and Tanu (Ranaut). However, after four years of an apparently torturous marriage, Tanu pushes Manu into a mental asylum and flies back to India to the comfort of her maternal home. What follows is a ridiculous and dramatic play where these central characters fool around just because they couldn't keep their issues with themselves. One will empathize with Manu, but audiences in their right minds will never support Tanu and her mercuric attitude which sums up to two words that Manu so efficiently describes her using, earlier in the film - bipolar disorder. The film started quite well and I had jotted down few good points like clever humor and good dialogs, but I am going to deny Mr Rai the pleasure. The reason that no insight is provided into why Tanu does what she does is horrendous. And it is the biggest problem the film faces. Madhavan has nothing much to do here other than flexing his expressive face muscles, and it is Ranaut really who runs the show with her double role and ample cleavage. Dobriyal and Shergill also deliver great performances. There is also a dash of a stark social reality in the plot that may have earned few brownie points if the film had something more and new and inventive to tell. All said and done and having lauded Ranaut's (who is definitely thanking her stars right now) high-standard performance, for a film that is so bad, she only works as a rope that is used to send a convict down the gallows, here the convict being the film itself. I just hope the makers don't come up with another sequel, with a suitable title like "Tanu Weds Manu: Returns: 2." BOTTOM LINE: Tanu Weds Manu: Returns is a film that you won't hate, but will just come to disagree with. RATING: 2 stars out of 10 - avoid. Tanu Weds Manu (2011) was 2/10, as well. Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

After a stormy romance, Tanu (Kangana) married Manu (Madhavan) four years ago. But in London, the sparks between them die. Separating sourly, Tanu returns to her hometown, lighting Kanpur up with her wild-child Bohemian ways while Manu mopes in Delhi until he meets Haryanvi athlete Kusum (Kangana) - who resembles the woman he once loved. Will Manu and Kusum find romance - despite Tanu returning to Manu's life? Tanu Weds Manu Returns boasts one of the finest double roles ever in Hindi cinema. Kangana is breathtakingly good, both as doll-like drama queen Tanu and simple, dignified, earthy Kusum, whose wide-eyed honesty, flat, sporty figure and large, dusty teeth contrast sharply with Tanu's peachy prettiness, her dressy appeal, her petulant rosebud mouth, her vain, glittering fragility. Each role is performed with sensitivity, precision and flair, Kangana displaying the confidence of a talent Queen. Alongside, Madhavan does a fine job as quiet, often morose, sometimes hopeful Manu - his shyly searching look at Kusum, wearing ear-rings he's gifted her, is lovely. Deepak Dobriyal smashes it as Manu's chatty buddy Pappi. Deepak carries off superb lines with breezy perfection, scolding his confused friend with, "Are you Salman Khan Jo commitment nahin choroge?", mumbling and grumbling through a sparkling performance. The plot's racily pacey. Packing in eccentric characters, hilarious scenes - Manu's mother has a whole monologue, nagging - and emotions that tug at your heart while tickling you pink, crisp editing and deeply authentic visuals keep surprising. The music glows while gemstone-like scenes evoke crazy romance, crushing heartbreak - and delightful new crushes. But the real draw of Tanu Weds Manu Returns is that you get two Kangana Ranauts to entertain you, and she delivers in a huge way. Last Words - Watch it once for Kangana Ranaut. This is the film that will prove why she is called Queen of Bollywood!

First Day, First Show! Yes, you heard it right, Although I am not a complete movie addict, but today somehow I planned to watch this movie with family. Unlike other people, I always search for movies, made with love. And, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, can surely be counted one among them. The movie surely got me involved so much that I planned to appreciate the team behind this wonderful movie. The strong Points about the movie are its Story, Dialogues and Cinematography. There are various scenes in the movie which will get you goosebumps. Each Character is chosen wisely and it seems as if you are peeking into somebody's life through a movie. The director has well connected different regions lie Punjab, Haryana and UP. You can hear and feel the regular UP culture. Two Actors whose acting has impressed me are Kangana Ranaut and Deepak Dobriyal "Pappi". Both the actors has given performance and the way they have hold the story is marvelous. There was never a point in the movie, when you will come out of the story and think of something else. Its so much gripping. The Background score and songs in the movie are well placed and used mostly to pace up story time. All in all its a "Paisa Wasool" movie which you will love to watch again. Thanks!

Movie starts off with hilarious dialogs. Till the intermission, you just can't stop laughing, all thanks to Kangana's superb acting and Deepak's unbelievable comic timing. It's not like any other movie sequels where they change the personality and behaviour of the character just to create more fun. Music of the film is outstanding. You just can't stop repeating the song in your mind once you listen to it. #bano-tera-swagger On post-movie thoughts, logic for climax seems to be off the track. But awesome performances by all the actors especially Kangana and Deepak makes you forget any illogical things in the movie. Yet again Kangana will surely be getting her National Award again. If this movie can't win the best film award then surely awards are paid rather than earned by the Khans. Just stop reading any more reviews and go to theaters to watch and enjoy or later regret for not watching the best movie of 2015.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns, a sequel to hit Romantic Comedy firm of 2011 - Tanu Weds Manu. There is always tremendous amount of expectations from a sequel of a successful film, and it is interesting to see, how Director Anand L Rai has shaped up this movie. When I had watched Tanu weds Manu, I had always wondered how Tanu and Manu's marriage life would shape up - two diametrically opposite individuals. If Manu had a very subtle and polite attitude, Tanu had rebellious attitude. The earlier version had its own quirks and twists, which has not changed in this movie also. The sequel is titled as Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and indeed the return is even more quirky. The tone of the movie is unapologetic, non-judgmental, and unconventional. As was the case with the predecessor, the plot grows beyond dualism, right/wrong. The characters have not changed at all, the eccentricities continue in full form in Tanu Weds Manu Returns as well. It captures the various aspects of marriage- what happens when monotony slips into marriage, when the spark misses from the relationship, how one is not able to understand the emotional challenges faced by the other, how the couple is bored in relationship and finds reasons to blame each other, set of expectations followed by disappointments with each other etc. The best part is, humour is there throughout the movie, no emotional baggage is there, no villain in the movie. Set in four locations - London, Delhi, Kanpur and a Haryana village Jhajjar, the screenplay free flows magically in absolutely entertaining manner. Movie begins from where its predecessor stopped. Tanu is getting married to Manu. Their wedding scenes are there on screen with the background score 'Sun Saiban Sun, Pyar ki Dhun…'. Does 'Happily lived thereafter' become true for Tanu and Manu? This movie captures their lives 'Four Years later' after their much loud and dramatic marriage. Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) and Manu (Madhavan) are at the doctors' desk discussing their frustration with one another. Hilarious scenes. If Tanu has complaints about Manu not showing any spark / enthusiasm in relationship; Manu's logic is from where to bring spark (is he a lighter) and how many times or ways he should be telling the same three words –'I love you'. Kangana complaints about monotony in relationship. Manu interprets Tanu's moodiness, emotional ups and downs as her having bipolar disorder and the doctor very politely puts it across to him, if that is the case, then every female on this earth might be having bipolar disorders. Both of them had a long list of blames and accusations against each other. The whole drama and conflicts makes Manu land in mental asylum and Tanu decides to come back to Kanpur. Her uneasiness of leaving Manu in mental asylum is handled in her own eccentric manner. She informs Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal, friend of Manu) in a very effortless tone regarding Manu being in mental asylum and asks him to get him out. Pappi is in his usual witty self, prefers to do the sight-seeing in London rather than directly going to the asylum. On getting Tanu's reminder, he brings Manu out of the asylum. Both of them fly back to Delhi. Another hilarious scene is the conversation between father and the son. Manu talks to his father about his desire for giving divorce to Tanu. During their conversation, Manu's mother is cribbing in the background and father tells him that marriage is all about compromise and so Manu must continue with his marriage. When Manu retorts saying that he had to bear the torture for four years, father says he is bearing since last 40 years. Two school of thoughts here (without any preachy dialogues). Twist to the story happens when Manu goes to University to deliver a lecture, where he sees Tanu's look alike Kusum Datto Sangwan, an athlete. Manu feels that in spite of dreading to fall in love, he has once again fallen in love with Kusum. Kusum has typical Haryanvi accent. Plot moves to show how he chases Kusum. Parallelly, frames are shown about Tanu being at her usual best - eccentric, unapologetic, unpredictable and rebellious. She deals with her heartbreaks in her own unique fashion. She doesn't mind going to each and every ex- boyfriend and meet them without any emotional baggage. If Manu is dating Kusum in Delhi, Tanu is supposedly going out with Raja Awasthi (Jimmy Shergill, her ex-flame). What happens, when Tanu comes to know regarding Kusum? How is Raja Awasthi in this sequel, is he the same old Raja? Do we get to hear the bullet shots from Raja? How and when does the paths of Tanu, Manu, Kusum, Raja cross one another? Whom does Manu choose at the end – Tanu or Kusum? Kangana rocks as Tanu and Kusum. Bit disappointed with Madhavan's exhausted look in this movie.

Story: Four years down the line after a dramatic wedding, Tanu and Manu are settled in London and have fallen in a usual marital rut. Sentimental Tanu always looking for excitement and adventure in life is finding it hard to put up with a regular guy like Manu. She is ruing the loss of romance and he is just struggling to figure out what exactly has gone wrong. A visit to a counselor makes the matters worse and Tanu and Manu are separated. Tanu is back in Kanpur trying to overcome the mental turmoil within, by trying to connect with her past, trying to find some footing and some assurance, somewhere. She is back to her wild ways. This time, with a flavor of a London returned small town Desi. While she is busy giving culture shocks to her folks, Manu is back home too. He is a nervous wreck who is unable to handle what his life has come to. Both of them don't want to be with each other. While Tanu connects with Raj Awasthi, Manu finds a Tanu lookalike who captures his imagination. Athlete Kusum alias Datto is a feisty, smart, independent young girl who has just started out in life and is in the age of dreaming about life, career and love. Manu is unable to get his thoughts off her and an unlikely love story seems to be taking shape here. The two loose ends of Tanu and Manu's life intertwine again. Raj Awasthi who formed the third angle in the love story of Tanu and Manu is involved in Tanu and Datto's story as well. Chintu, a young lawyer who lives in Tanu's house as a tenant who never pays rent, also plays his part in complicating matters. It becomes a sort of 'love pentagon' for a while. Tanu and Manu go through a whole turmoil of not wanting and deep down so wanting each other. The story reaches a point where Manu is all set to marry Datto. Tanu is running errands, doing all sorts of work and witnessing every single happening around Manu's wedding as if to punish herself for blowing it off. Raj Awasthi by this point is ready to accept Tanu yet again. And Tanu seems to have retained a thing for him as well. Raj Awasthi is also not averse to the idea of marrying Datto as she looks like Tanu. Now, do Manu and Datto get married? Is Chintu able to create problems that would change the face of any of the relationships? What happens to Raj Awasthi? And finally and most importantly, what happens to Tanu and Manu? Watch the film to find out. Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan in a still from movie 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' Star Performances: This film belongs to Kangana Ranaut. This is another stellar performance by her after Queen. Here we have not one but two Kanganas. Tanu along with all her 'care a damn' attitude and in your face frankness also has a touch of cynicism, this time around. It is brought about beautifully by the dialogues and essayed marvelously by Kangana. She is totally rocking and endearing as the feisty but good natured Datto as well. R. Madhavan as a depressed, patient man who sees a glimmer of hope and love in Datto is perfect. He does justice to the character of a man who badly wants love but is not totally convinced of what he is doing. Deepak Dorbriyal plays his character like a caricature. So, he seems to be overdoing it at times but some comic madness is always welcome. Jimmy Shergill is excellent as a little sobered down Raj Awasthi who is still protective about Tanu. Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub shines in a small role and so do Swara Bhaskar and Rajesh Sharma. Direction, editing

.....after you have been mentally slaughtered on an over-hyped film like Bombay Velvet the week before, TWMR is a breath of fresh air. Excellent script, great direction and wonderful performances make this a must-watch romantic-comedy. The attention to detail in character design, setup and dialects is worth mentioning. Even if you haven't watched the prequel, it stands on it's own right and leaves you with a feel good happy feel. It slightly loses it's grip somewhere close to the climax, but that aside, it's brilliant. Go and enjoy!

I had watched the prequel and loved it. It was a perfect film and a breath of fresh air in the turgid environment of Bollywood. So when the sequel came, we booked our tickets a week in advance and waited eagerly for the feast we were sure of. If you are not seeking hundred percent verisimilitude the film meets all your expectations. We were in a late late night show (in a foreign country) and the theatre was full. People were clapping, hooting with laughter and enjoyment and were thoroughly engaged with the film. The film is about what happens to Tanu and Manu four years down the line. In that, it's quite predictable. Disappointment, resentment, regret, a desire to turn the clock back -all these describe the madcap Tanu (Kangana)who makes her way home after getting her husband, Manu, thrown into a mental asylum for being boring and callous like most husbands. What follows is a mad trajectory of passive marital rage interspersed with a clever balance of realism, comedy and pathos. This is done so well and so effortlessly that you are carried along, now laughing, now upset, now understanding, now sad, now nodding your head in recognition at some situation or dialogue. Without giving away the story, suffice it to say that Aanand Rai has proved that the public is ready to accept an indie film provided it's honest, original and clean. Here, Kangana steers the film and the rest of the cast perform seamlessly. Madhavan plays second fiddle to Kangana but with perfect élan. Deepak (Pappi) is our new Johnny Walker, fresh, natural and without the contortions of our so called stand ups. I love Jimmy Shergill and feel sad that he is visible only in glimpses. Yes, Banno, your swagger is immensely sexy, attractive, rib tickling and I am rooting for ya. You go, gal!
