4.5 Excellent

This album was not typical Vishal-Shekhar which I have always loved. This was more typical Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy which also I have always loved. Every song in this except Jag Soona Soona Lage which I feel has a very plain and boring tune is a brilliant masterpiece.

Lets start with Ajab Si, which is a typical opener to a Shahrukh Khan movie's album. It is light pop, with a melodious tune but the twist is that K.K. has sung this song and he has played it well. The song, although not my favorite from the album, acts as the representative of Om Shanti Om.

Dard-E-Disco. I didn't like this song in the beginning, mainly because when I heard this song, I saw Shahrukh Khan and he was looking horrible in that video. But when I heard this song without the video, I loved it. It is a typical dance number that isn't like "Ishq Kabhi Kariyo Naa" or "Ishq Kamina" or even "Sharara." No, this is more like a "Mast Kalander" from Heyy Babyy or a "Kajra Re" from Bunty Aur Babli. It has a tune which is very catchy and has a variety of instruments used in it.

Main Agar Kahoon! I love it. This one is a typical Sonu Nigam type song. Soft, slow, romantic pop song. But this song is less Sonu Nigam movie songs like Kal Ho Na Ho and Saathiya but more like Sonu Nigam in his private albums. If you hear albums like "Deewana" and "Jaan" you will see what I am talking about. The pop beat, the piano, and his brilliant voice. Well - it is not a pop beat, it is more like a pop ballad beat which gives it a 60s/70s touch.

Dastaan-E-Om Shanti Om. A lot of people are saying this is like "Ek Haseena Thi" from Karz. Yes, the idea is the same. A large, cresendo based song which subtly tells the story of Om Shanti Om - but the tune is not the same at all. It is completely different from what is made these days or even what was made back then. It has a lot of energy. Starts of slow and then rises and rises with energy with the strings adding even more ethusiasm in it.

Deewangi Deewangi. IndiaFM was right. This is a lot like a Yash Chopra or Karan Johar movie type song. I sensed a combo of "Yeh Ladki Hai Deewaani" from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and "Chale Jaise Hawaaiyen" from Main Hoon Naa and although this song doesn't have the greatest melody - I love to listen to it. I especially like the "All hot girls put your hands up and say - OM SHANTI OM..." It is very thrilling for me.

Dhoom Tanaa is a good song. Good tune, Abhijeet was nice and very traditional. While it may not be chosen song of the year, it is good to listen and is a good addition in terms of genre to the album in whole.

I don't like many medleys but the Om Shanti Om medly has all the songs in it and they are not in instrumental but in actual voice, which makes it very cool to hear.

Finally Jag Soona Soona Lage. I don't like the song very much. Firstly - it is not a Rahat Fateh Ali Khan type song at all. It isn't anything like "Mann Ki Lagan" from Paap or "Jiya Dhadak Dhadak" from Kalyug. And for some reason -I didn't find much of a tune in the actual song. The only thing going for this song is the interlude music. This is the black spot on what is a brilliant album by Vishal-Shekhar.

I rate this as Vishal-Shekhar's best album - well it is tied with "Jhankar Beats!" I love this album and it is definite buy for everyone. This one is a strong contendor for the Filmfare Awards, IIFA Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Stardust Awards, and any other award.
