Tamil actor-politician Vijaykanth passes away; celebs express their condolences

Tamil actor and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Chief Vijaykanth passed away on Thursday morning. The actor is expected to have been admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and was kept on ventilator support until he breathed his last on December 28. The Tamil Nadu government has announced the last rites of the actor-politician to be held on Friday with full honors considering his contribution.

In an official statement released by the hospital, they revealed that Vijaykanth was diagnosed with pneumonia. "Captain Vijayakanth was on ventilatory support following his admission for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he passed away in the morning on 28th December 2023." Followed by the news, many actors took to social media to pay their last respects and express condolence over the demise of the actor-politician including superstars like Chiranjeevi, Jr NTR, Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, Trisha Krishnan, Simran Bagga, among others.

 

Honorable PM Narendra Modi was one of the first to express his heartfelt condolence wherein he said, “Deeply saddened by Vijayakanth's demise. A legend in the Tamil film world, his mesmerizing acting skills have captured the hearts of millions. As a political leader, he was deeply committed to public service and made a lasting impact on the Tamil Nadu political arena. His demise has left a void that cannot be filled. I fondly remember the conversations I had with him over the years as a close friend of mine. My thoughts are with his family, fans and countless supporters at this sad time. Om Shanti.”
