Filming for the second season of hit HBO series House of the Dragon will reportedly continue in U.K. despite the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike in the U.S. The filming won’t be affected as the scripts have been completed earlier. According to Variety, The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers ended contract talks with the Writers Guild of America on Monday night, hours before the contract expiration deadline. The WGA responded by calling for a strike to begin on Tuesday.

The report further notes that under strike rules, WGA members working internationally must down tools on any project that falls within the union’s jurisdiction if there’s active writing work taking place. As such, several U.S. projects filming in the U.K. could be affected by the strike — it’s just a matter of how extensively such a disruption will impact the production overall.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon recently added four new actors namely, Simon Russell Beale, Freddie Fox, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim, joining the much-anticipated Season 2. Beale will portray Ser Simon Strong, the Castellan of Harrenhal, Fox joins as Ser Gwayne Hightower, Rankin and Salim both will portray Alys Rivers and Alyn of Hull, respectively. Rivers will be seen as a healer and resident of Harrenhal, while Alyn is a sailor in the Velaryon fleet who served in the Stepstones campaign.

In addition to Needham, Ifans, Cooke, Glynn-Carney, Saban, Mitchell, Smith, and D'Arcy, the confirmed returning cast includes Eve Best (Princess Rhaenys Targaryen), Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon), Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole), Harry Collett (Jace Velaryon), Bethany Antonia (Baela Targaryen), Phoebe Campbell (Rhaena Targaryen), and Jefferson Hall (Jason Lannister).

George R.R. Martin is attached as the executive producer and co-creator alongside Ryan Condal. Executive Producers are Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis. “House of the Dragon has returned,” Condal said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera. All your favorite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”

No release date has been set for House of the Dragon Season 2 which will premiere sometime in 2024.
