Dwayne Johnson confirms Black Adam not in 'first chapter' of James Gunn-led DC Universe
Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that Black Adam is not in the "first chapter" of the new revamped DC Universe under co-chief James Gunn. But, the actor promised that he will return to the role down the line when the opportunity arrives.
"James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling," Dwayne Johnson wrote in a statement on Tuesday on his social media. "However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters."
Johnson further said he had no hard feelings on the matter. Speaking about new DC head James Gunn, he added, "James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It's no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG."
"These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision of DCU through their creative lens," he continued. "After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I'm very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide. I will always look back on the fan reaction to Black Adam with tremendous gratitude, humility, and love."
He thanked the fans and promised to always listen to them with his pursuits. He also wished them happy holidays before signing off.
James Gunn himself shared Johnson's statement on his Twitter account and responded by saying, "Love [Johnson] & I'm always excited to see what he & Seven Bucks do next. Can't wait to collaborate soon."
Speaking of Black Adam, the film is directed by Jaume Collett-Serra, written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani based on characters from DC, based on characters created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck.
