Shah Rukh Khan pens heartfelt tribute to Andre Russell on his retirement from IPL
Shah Rukh Khan has penned an emotional tribute to Andre Russell after the veteran all-rounder announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Russell, a long-time favourite of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), posted a video on Sunday announcing his decision to step away from playing. While his announcement saddened many fans, it also signalled the beginning of a new chapter for him within the same team.
Almost immediately, Shah Rukh, who co-owns the franchise, responded on social media with a heartfelt note brimming with respect, love and admiration. “Thank you for the wonderful memories, Andre. Our Knight in shining armour!!! Your contribution to @KKRiders is one for the books…” he wrote.
He also celebrated Russell’s transition into his new role as the team’s power coach, adding: “And here’s to another chapter in your fantastic journey as a sportsman… The power coach passing down the wisdom, the muscle and of course the power down to our boys in purple and gold… And yes, any other jersey would indeed look weird on you my man… Muscle Russell for life! Love u… on behalf of the team and everyone who loves the sport!!”
Russell’s retirement marks the end of an era: he has been a key member of KKR for many years, known for his explosive batting and match-winning performances. His shift from being a player to taking up a coaching role allows him to remain part of the team’s legacy while shaping the next generation of cricketers.
For now, KKR fans and cricket lovers alike will cherish the memories Russell created, while looking forward to what he brings as “Muscle Russell” off the field but still firmly in purple and gold.
