Rani Mukerji says she will “always do things for the big screen”; calls herself a “cinema actor”

Rani Mukerji has dented the narrative that content films are only for OTT with the positive start that Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway has taken. Post the release of the film, the actress had commented on the overwhelming response. On the same note, Mukerji recently confessed that she will stick to theatres and will never be seen on OTT.

It all happened during the interaction with Indian Express. Speaking on the clear difference between watching a film on OTT and experiencing it on the big screen, Rani asserted, “When you’re watching a film like this in a theatre, you’ll connect more. When you’re watching a film at home, people can see your face. In the darkness of a cinema hall, when you cry for her, there’s catharsis. No one’s watching you there, unlike watching a film at home, where everyone can see you, your face, your reaction.”

 

The 45-year-old actress further added, “Cinema halls just transport you to another world. I’d always, always do things for the big screen because I’m a cinema actor. That’s an experience I can’t trade for anything in the world. When you watch a film in a cinema hall, you make plans, specifically. You make an effort there and do not like to come home after a long day of work and say, ‘Let’s scroll through what's there to watch.’ What’s the meaning of that? We work so hard, not for people to just decide if we should click this button or not.” She concluded by saying, “At least we want that kind of respect that they’re making a plan for us. That’s what drives us.”

 

Coming back to Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, directed by Ashima Chibber, the film is inspired by the real-life story of Sagarika Chakraborty and adapted from her book The Journey of a Mother. It was released on March 17.
