Irrfan Khan's wife reveals Amitabh Bachchan was initially “Upset” by his improvisation during Piku shoot; adds, “Then they became friends”

Irrfan Khan's wife Sutapa Sikdar has revealed, during the book launch event of Irrfan Khan: A Life in Movies, how the actor would improvise scenes in movies. Sutapa recalled a time during the making of Piku when Irrfan improvised a scene. She said that Amitabh Bachchan was initially upset by this, but they eventually became friends.

She said that he would work with the director and the writer to develop the scene, but then he would add his own touches when he was on set. As the conversation progressed further, she recalled having a conversation with director Shoojit Sircar, director of the film Piku. Shoojit told Sutapa, “Bachchan saab is very structured and really prepared when he comes, and Irrfan improvised, and he got really upset. Then they became friends.”

 

For the unversed, Irrfan Khan, the acclaimed actor who was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour and succumbed to colon infection, passed away on April 29, 2020. A book on Khan's life and work, titled Irrfan Khan: A Life in Movies, written by Shubhra Gupta and published by Pan Macmillan India, was launched in Delhi on Sunday.
