EXCLUSIVE: “Dinesh Vijan believes in us more than we believe in ourselves,” says Stree 2, Bhediya and Munjya writer Niren Bhatt

Filmmaker Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2 was expected to be a successful film, but it has, instead, become a runaway blockbuster. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead, the film is a part of the horror-comedy universe formed by producer Dinesh Vijan under his banner Maddock Films.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Niren Bhatt, the writer of Stree 2, Bhediya and Munjya, revealed about Vijan’s involvement in the films of his horror-comedy universe. “I would like to categorically say that I can’t tell you how big his contribution has been in this horror-comedy universe,” he said. “Sometimes me and Amar wonder whether this scene is done right. So, the confidence and boost we get comes from Dinesh Vijan’s side. He believes in us more than we believe in ourselves. He gives us all the freedom and provides all the support.”

 

Bhatt continued, “He is also very much involved in the marketing and promotions. He also sits with music directors Sachin and Jigar and is involved in every line of every song. I have worked with a lot of people across industries and platforms. I feel if you don’t have such a producer, you can’t make something so liberating and with freedom; something with such madness. Else, you are bombarded with questions on why this is like this and all that. But he shows trust in us and always provides confidence.”

 

Also starring Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana among others, Stree 2 is now all set to cross the Rs. 400 Crores Club in India itself. Apart from this film, which released on India’s Independence Day on August 15, other movies from the horror-comedy universe are Bhediya and Munjya. The latter released earlier this year and became a runaway success. It starred Abhay Verma and Sharvari in lead roles.
