Emraan Hashmi talks about making enemies after candid Koffee With Karan comments; says, “I’m gonna make a mess of things again”

In a 2014 episode of Koffee With Karan season 4, Emraan Hashmi and Mahesh Bhatt made headlines with their candid remarks. The episode, which is still remembered for its controversial comments, saw Emraan making remarks about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and his co-star Mallika Sherawat from the film Murder.

In a recent interview with Zoom, Emraan Hashmi addressed the lingering impact of the Koffee With Karan appearance. Reflecting on the social media resurgence of clips from the rapid-fire round, the actor admitted, “You end up making many enemies…” He explained that dealing with the aftermath of such remarks is too much to handle, leading him to avoid chat shows altogether.

 

When asked if his approach has changed, Emraan asserted that he hasn't lost his edge and predicted that he would likely stir up more controversy if he were to return to the chat show. He humorously commented, “If I go on Koffee With Karan again, I’m gonna make a mess of things again. I think I'll be worse off in the rapid-fire round than I was before.”

 

Emraan clarified that his remarks were not personal attacks, emphasizing that he had nothing against the actors mentioned. He revealed that the competitive nature of the show drove him to make unconventional statements, all in the pursuit of winning the coveted hamper. “Because it’s an opinion, and I don’t really have anything against these people. I just wanted to win the hamper. It just becomes a competitive thing and you say these weird things,” he explained.

 

For context, Emraan Hashmi had issued an apology in 2014 after referring to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as ‘plastic’ on Koffee With Karan. He clarified at the time that he was a big fan of Aishwarya and attributed his comments to the format of the show, where making unusual statements was part of the game.
