‘Desi George Clooney’ Akshay Kumar was not the first choice for PadMan

 

2018 is about to start with a bang, thanks to PadMan. It stars Akshay Kumar and is inspired from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who made low-cost sanitary napkins. His story got prominence after Twinkle Khanna wrote about him in her book ‘The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad’. And it’s her story that led to the making of Pad Man, with hubby Akshay playing the lead role.‘Desi George Clooney’ Akshay Kumar was not the first choice for PadMan

 

At the launch of the song ‘Aaj Se Teri’ from this social drama, Twinkle Khanna had no qualms in admitting that Akshay Kumar was actually not the first choice for the lead role. When asked by the emcee, she said, “No, Akshay was not the first choice for PadMan. Actually, director R Balki convinced me that Akshay should play this part.”

 

What was also the talk of the event was Akshay Kumar’s new buzz cut that made him look great. He got this look as he has no films to shoot till the New Year since he’s on a month-long break. Moreover, he also sported a salt-and-pepper look which is praiseworthy since many actors of his generation tend to not show that their hair is greying. A reporter compared him to George Clooney and on hearing that, Akshay blushed! He humbly replied, “It feels nice but George Clooney bahut bade insaan hai. Calling me George Clooney is a very big compliment. I take in a very nice way and that’s it!”

 

PadMan also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor. It is the first film produced by Mrs Funnybones Pictures, owned by Twinkle Khanna. It’s all set to release on January 26, 2018.
