Baazigar 2 in the works? Ratan Jain confirms being in talks with Shah Rukh Khan about sequel: “It will definitely be made”

The 1993 thriller Baazigar, starring Shah Rukh Khan in a daring anti-hero role, remains one of Bollywood's most celebrated films. Decades after its release, the film’s suspenseful storyline, captivating music, and stellar performances continue to resonate with audiences. Recently, news has surfaced that a sequel to this cult classic could soon become a reality, with Baazigar’s producer, Ratan Jain, confirming that he intends to move forward with Baazigar 2.

Ratan Jain Confirms Baazigar 2 Will Be Made

In a recent conversation with ETimes, producer Ratan Jain revealed that discussions regarding Baazigar 2 are in progress, and Shah Rukh Khan remains an essential part of these talks. “We keep talking to Shah Rukh about Baazigar 2, but not much has happened, but it will definitely be made,” said Jain. While the project is in early discussions, Jain has made it clear that he wants to proceed with the sequel only if Shah Rukh Khan reprises his role in the lead.

The Sequel Needs a ‘Compelling’ Script and ‘Fresh’ Direction

The potential for Baazigar 2 has been considered by Jain for some time, though a finalised script is not yet in place. Jain spoke about the importance of a strong narrative and innovative direction that can honour the original film’s impact and bring something new to the table. He remarked, “There is an exciting idea about the sequel, but we need a compelling script and fresh direction to move forward.” Jain aims to ensure that any sequel to Baazigar lives up to the high expectations set by the original.

31 Years Later: Baazigar’s Lasting Impact

Released on November 12, 1993, Baazigar turned 31 this year, marking over three decades since Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of an anti-hero captivated fans. The film starred Kajol opposite Khan, forming one of Bollywood’s most iconic on-screen duos, with Shilpa Shetty, Siddharth Ray, Rakhee, Dalip Tahil, and Johny Lever rounding out the memorable cast. Directed by the acclaimed duo Abbas-Mustan, Baazigar solidified Shah Rukh Khan's place as a versatile actor.
