He is one of the most prolific filmmakers of our country whose films have even been awarded the prestigious National award. He is none other than Priyadarshan, director of films such as Hera Pheri, Hulchul, Virasat, Gardish, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and De Dana Dan.

Priyadarshan is now ready with his latest flick titled Aakrosh and starring Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu in lead roles. The super-talented filmmaker was live on Bollywood Hungama's video chat recently. For all those who missed logging in, here are the excerpts:

Priyadarshan : Niraj...my pleasure too

mariya : hy priya dharshan ji . i always like ur comedy masala films but why u make serious film akrosh

 

Priyadarshan : mariya...I think I started with films like Gardish and Virasat and then came Hera Pheri. After that I got a stamp on my head that I am a comedy director and I cant do anything else. Dont worry even my film aakrosh will be as entertaining as my comedies

 

Niraj : priyan saab,why was khatta meetha promoted as a comedy?i think that went against the film.

 

Priyadarshan : Niraj..u r absolutely right but I didnt do that. The Producers did it

 

 

mariya : can u tell somthing about akrosh

 

Priyadarshan : mariya...Aakrosh is a film with a backdrop of a big social issue of today which is Caste Wars and Honour Killing that is happening in Northern States of India.

Priyadarshan : you can mail it to No 6 Veerabhadran Street, Chennai 34. Thats my office but pls register your script before u send it. I cant be responsible for any sequence later which comes in any film

 

rambug : Why r u preferring only remakes ?? of course u r getting them good ?

 

Priyadarshan : rambug...ya u r right. I was always looking for scripts in Bombay and i didnt find anything attractive and moreover i made so many interesting films in Kerala which has been seen by a ltd audience so I always thought that those subjects have a national appeal and since I have a bigger budget in Hindi I could make those films better. Now I have got good originial scripts coming and thats why I am making a film like aakrosh and my next few projects

Amit : u told in interview-no south director has survived in bollywood ever,but likes of S.S.Vasan etc have

 

Priyadarshan : Amit...I was talking about Bollywood becos people like SS Vasan used to be producer-directors. I was talking abt directors who have made their mark big in South like K Balachandran to Shankar

 

sohaill : i think virasat was the greatest of all thumbs up

 

Priyadarshan : sohaill..then u will like Aakrosh also.

 

Niraj : priyan saab,do u agree that a film with a good script & average director can work but not vice versa

 

Priyadarshan : Niraj...absolutely right. screenplay is the most impt factor of a film and its the spine of the cinema. A good screenplay however bad u make may work but a bad screenplay however good u make may not work.

 

Deepali : priyan saab,what difference do u find in the taste of the audiences of bollywood & south?

 

Priyadarshan : Deepali...absolutely no difference except that in Bollywood logics does not have much importance and meaningful cinema is not seen by masses.

 

 

Aamir : sir before film did u want to be a professional cricketer?

 

Priyadarshan : Aamir...I could never be a professional cricketer. I was only playing club and league level but even today cricket is my first passion.

 

me123456 : Sir, Why maximum of comedy films are of repeating nature?

 

Priyadarshan : becos the combination of situations are limited and performers are less so u r supposed to repeat the situations and the actors which brings a monotony.

 

ZamairaKapoor : Sir, how was it working with the supremely talented actor Akshaye Khanna in one of the most anticipated films?

 

Priyadarshan : Zamaira...I have always enjoyed working with Akshaye Khanna. Sad thing is that I feel he has not got what he deserves.

 

 

 

 

 

Priyadarshan : Aamir...I could never be a professional cricketer. I was only playing club and league level but even today cricket is my first passion

 

pooja83 : What are ur other upcoming movies?

 

Priyadarshan : pooja...just few films , all are serious films. After Aakrosh, the next one is a film with Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Mohanlal, Kunal Kapoor and Boman Irani...its again a thriller completely shot in London.

 

Niraj : what is ur opinion abt. trend where filmmakers avoid lipsync song/dance?i thank u for not doing so

 

Priyadarshan : Niraj...in Indian cinema music is an integral part and we cannot avoid it becos Indian cinema has derived originally from Indian folk arts. Today whatever said and done Bollywood has its own identity becos of song and dance. As long as we can make it look as a part of the film it goes very well , directors are forced to add songs into screenplays for the sake of the song. That is what drops the grip of the film

 

pooja83 : Whats ur fav type of cuisine?

 

Priyadarshan : pooja...Kerala Fish Curry and Rice

 

ZamairaKapoor : What is Akshaye Khanna?s role in Aakrosh? What do u think about his performance? Are u satisfied with it?

 

Priyadarshan : Zamaira...Akshaye is playing an SP of CBI. He is on a mission to find 3 medical students who are missing when they go to a village when they watch Ramleela. As usual he has done a brilliant job.

 

 

mariya : sir, i want to see u working with shahrukh

 

Priyadarshan : mariya…I've already done Billu with SRK but I would love to do a solo film with him. It may happen but I cant say when.

 

aryanhindustani... : sir y dont u make film on chacha chaudhry (the cartoon character)

 

Priyadarshan : aryan...ha ha ha...I am not very much aware of chacha chaudhary. Ive head that they are very popular comics in North. Infact Paresh Rawal makes fun of Akshaye and Ajay in Aakrosh by calling them Chacha Chaudhary

 

pooja83 : Whats da latest on Hera Pheri 3? read dat akshay aint doing it and u have got totally new star cast.

 

Priyadarshan : pooja...i have done only the original first Hera Pheri...it was born then. Second one fell sick and third one i believe will die. I am not directing any of the Hera Pheri films

Niraj : priyansaab,we hear tamil films have huge budgets.are south films at par with bollywood in budgets?

 

Priyadarshan : Niraj...yeah some of them are bigger than Bollywood in terms of budget. for eg Robot the budget of which if Bollywood has to match they have to make a film with Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman and Amitabh bachchan.

Niraj : priyan saab,according to u-are south films at par with bollywood-technically & artistically?

 

Priyadarshan : Niraj...yea actually south films I call that they are above Bollywood on content and technically definitely Bollywood is much above them

 

 

Rajan Chaurasia : Hello sir ,any other movie with akshay kumar after khatta meetha,I am huge fan of him.

 

Priyadarshan : Rajan...yes a film next year after August

 

Niraj : priyan saab,which filmmakers of hindi cinema are your all-time favourites?

 

Priyadarshan : Niraj...Shyam Benegal and Manmohan desai

 

ZamairaKapoor : When will u finally cast and work with Akshay Kumar and Akshaye Khanna together in same flick?

 

Priyadarshan : Zamaira...when the right script comes along

 

futuretopmodel : sir, are you looking for a new face for any upcoming movies

 

Priyadarshan : not at present but industry is not in a good shape as it was 3 years before. When things improve I can think about that

 

rambug : Pritam always gives U a great music a line about him plz

 

Priyadarshan : I only know how difficult it is to get it out of Pritam.

 

Rajvir : Priyan Sir whos ur fav actor in india?

 

Priyadarshan : Mohanlal

 

harish : Dont u feel u shd be be making more serious cinema like Kanchivaram and Virasat..

 

Priyadarshan : harish...yes definitely that is the whole idea because since I love every kind of film, I could make every kind of movie. thats why i could make Hera Pheri as well as Kanchivaram. I am still a good audience than a director

ZamairaKapoor : What made u sign the most underrated & the finest actor Akshaye Khanna for Aakrosh?

 

Priyadarshan : Zamaira...this role suited him very well

 

Niiraj : priyan saab which are your all-time favourite hindi films?

 

Priyadarshan : Nirraj...Ardh Satya, Amar akbar anthony, and definitely Guide.

 

mohith : when can we see a comedy film like hungama, hulchul?

 

Priyadarshan : mohith...the day i fail with my serious films

 

anita : sir why r u not promoting aakrosh as ur past films?

 

Priyadarshan : anita...its got enough time for release...we've just started the promotions

 

 

mahendra : What about working with Ajay?

 

Priyadarshan : mahendra...Amazing becos he doesnt act with his face.He acts with his eyes.

 

Niiraj : priyan saab,after making so many hindi films,are you comfortable with hindi language?

 

Priyadarshan : Niraj..no i can read and write but cant speak Hindi..I am very conscious

Priyadarshan : ashdxb..yaa Aakrosh is somewhat in the same genre.

Priyadarshan : alefia...a news published in the Times Of India.

 

 

 

 

 

Priyadarshan : sohaill...yaa the length of our films are increased by our songs and lengthy dialogues. If you can cut both we can make shorter films like Hollywood

 

anita : sir why u alwas make comedy with akshay not other actors?

 

Priyadarshan : Sandy...its not intentional that I didnt make Aakrosh with Akshay Kumar. Everybody has their own potential as actors but when u do casting on a script there are other aspects like the look, the body languge, all of which has taken in to consideration. Also the availability of the artists

Priyadarshan : indy...not in the near future

Priyadarshan : noori...pls ask the makers. I have no hand in that. I am not directing any Hera Pheri film

Priyadarshan : everybody has their own capability and an actor becomes great only when they get the right role. In shot actors are beggars...they cant choose.

Priyadarshan : mohith...ive directed few telugu films but ive stopped doing it only becos i am not able to follow the language perfectly

Priyadarshan : Zamaira...recognition of masses for me is the best award I have ever receieved. When you want to win a national award you should not make Aakrosh you should make Kanchivaram. Aakrosh is a film made for entertainment.

Priyadarshan : common sense and observation

 

Nirajj : priyan saab,according to you are our films at par with hollywood as far as the art is concerned?

 

Priyadarshan : definitely Niraj...few of them are. Even Hollywood survives hardly with 10 directors. The thrash which they are making is much inferior than the thrash which we make.

 

sheikmo : Which are you favourite hindi and english movies?

 

Priyadarshan : so many....english all the films of David Lean

 

Nirajj : priyan saab,there is a belief that hindi films arent the first choice of south audience,is it true?

 

Priyadarshan : definitely. in all regional areas it is always the second choice

 

Rajvir : promos of akrosh seems disturbing....can it be seen with entire family

 

Priyadarshan : rajvir...yes definitely all my films are made only for Families and I always make sure that I dont embarrass any parent when they see my films with their children
